Alternator issue

Hi,

My alternator has packed up so I fitted another alternator and a new external reg to my 1975 260z. All worked great good voltage etc. Only issue is I turn off the car and it keeps running. If I unplug the external reg the car stops and starts fine. Could it be something to do with the alternator light on the dash (as I do not seam to have one). There may have been some wrong previously as I am not 100% sure the alternator has ever worked.

Any ideas?

It seams to be the correct parts.

Put a diode in the field winding wire. I've had to do this before and its an easy fix.

What size diode and which way round does it go on which cable. Is the field the black and white cable. Sorry my electric knowledge is very little.
