Alternative engine/ box for a Z?

A mate of mine just sent me some links to a new car he's building. It's a space framed mk1 escort but the engine and box really interested me. Anyone guess what it is? Running 450hp.

Well done Steve. 2.8lt V8 hayabusa. I'd never heard of this modified engine and have yet to ask him how much it cost.

Two bore'd and stroked Hayabusa engines conjoined into a Vee, the crank apparently is pretty special
Big HP (result of big rpms) but unsuprisinlgly the torque is not monsterous.

Cool ! I've seen these before, I believe they were developed for radicals at first. They were bound to find there way onto the second hand market eventually. I'd like to know how much he paid for it?

Torque is under 300, around 275 I think. He's an old school friend who only lives just down the road. I'll have to pop round to see him and get the lowdown. There's a lot of stuff about his car on the ford forums along with his Mk1 cortina. Knowing how much he spent on his cortina, I'm guessing this is not a low budget build.

The engine is a Powertech V8, if it is 2.8 L then it is 460hp and 250lbs/ft.

The guy who developed it is called Ted Hurrell, he's a great guy and when I was doing hillclimbing seriously he built me a 1370cc GSXR that produced 215 bhp and 115 lbs/ft back in 1998, which was the Dog's Bollaccos at that time and set records here in Ulster as well as in England. This V8 engine has just won the British Hillclimb Championship, so they have a good pedigree and Ted is a good guy to deal with for any support and back-up, especially if this is going into a different aspect of motoring.

Cheers

Mike

The very modest Trevor Willis in the OMS.

The bike engine is a popular power unit for hill climb cars now with some good results.

Chris Cannell's twin engined Force SR8 is a spectacle to watch listen to and see. 2 hyabusa engines side by side running to a final drive so effectively a straight eight
