I agree entirely..... but in this modern age it seems that if it's not on their computer it can't be done!

Reminds me of an experience in Halfrauds a few years ago...
Me: Do you stock feeler gauges:
Halfrauds: Blank expression followed by 'What car is it for?'
Me: Doesn't matter which car
Halfrauds: Unless I have the car details I can't look it up on the computer

 Sometimes I despair

Halfords' places that service cars don't have grease guns. Fact. They don't need them as all the bits they see are sealed-for-life parts. I asked them to put some more in the ball joints of my Ford Mustang when they MOT'd it and they said they didn't have one, so couldn't.

But they could charge me £12.95 without consultation for adjusting the headlights to pass the test ... too late to know then whether they were out or not of course.

Precisely why I will only take my cars to select MOT test stations. Those who have good working knowledge of pre 1980 cars.

I've taken my Z (and other cars) to the same place for the last 5-6 years. We have a mutual friend. They know me, the car, and what they are looking at. And they tend to round down with the pricing now days!

You are right Franky and I have been saying I will get it checked but just never get around to it.
