Accessories and fads from the past

Whilst out for a walk, started to reminisce about old car stuff. Some of you of a certain age might remember some of these and have your own sad admissions.

Furry dice (yup, had these in the 70's hanging from my rear view mirror)

Whiplash ariel (these were about 3 foot long bendy things in 80's favoured by Ford Escorts)

Rubber strap things hanging from the back end of cars to reduce static - allegedly (90'S?)

Having neon night lights under the car to give that "floating" effect (2000'S?)

Those eyelash things on headlights (favoured by young women in Ford Ka's). Present day ****.

Every decade seems to have a naff useless product that catches on

Any others ?

Those big red stickers on the rear windows? They were very popular. My old man had a 'Turbo' one on his Cherry

Screw on chrome exhaust tail pipe, but basically anything from Halfords for under a tenner circa 1990.

I hope that's a Datsun Cherry you're referring to, rather than part of his anatomy?

There was a fad in the late 70's to have the guys name and his sweetheart's name across a sun strip at the top of the windscreen. Say Kevin on the drivers side and Sharon on the passenger side. There was this local lad who drove a beat up Triumph Spitfire and tore around with his mate. He used to have "Two Uglies" up on his sunstrip to take the p***. Always made me smile.

I recall people sticking the "Turbo" monicker on non-turbo cars.

Does anyone recall the turbo sound maker exhaust tips? They still get sold!

The nodding dog on the rear parcel shelf.

I wonder if one day we'll look back and laugh at low profile wheels and "stretched and stanced" with the same disdain?

Forgive me if I do already.

Foglights with a chunky chromed on/off switch -anything that allowed one to pretend to be JB in his DB4.

I Know I will be pilloried for daring to say this but i wonder if when the current fashion of having the extended wheel arches falls from favour what will future owners be saying about being unable to remove them as the original arch has been mutilated in order to fit them

I agree Steve - t me, it's a fad albeit it very popular and worldwide but later, we might a rift between those with and those without.....!
