Just joined the forum when I saw you guys had mentioned the car in question.

I just bought it as my next project.

Yes I want to make it mostly original too including putting back the original front lights.

Non runner.

Not viewed it.

It looked pretty original underneath the exterior fibreglassing from the photo's.

But hopefully when I get it delivered this week it will be good and mostly rust free.

Wish me luck.

So, how's that working out so far?

Just to put things into context, (a little maths haha) judging by the pictures alone, there is well in excess of 100 hours of fab/welding work on that shell, those rear arches alone are going to try anyone’s patience, if you could get the rear arch repair panels which I doubt, plus floors, roof etc etc etc.

At a minimum rate of £20/hour (mates rates) that equates to £2000 just to keep the rain out
Add reasonable paint job £2500

So there is an absolute minimum outlay of £4500 in the blink of an eye
I suspect that the iceberg effect is in play with the body shell so that figure will probably double and I suspect that the bill for welding gas alone will make anyone wince.

But hey I did hint at in post 13 where the assumption was that bits were easy to come by.

Or maybe your assessment of the shell and the expected costs differs to mine, please share.

Again like all on here, I don’t want to see you make a huge mistake, and I still can’t make my mind up if you're just having one huge laugh or you're serious…..but if your just on a wind up why spend all that money on a colander and some bling?

If this is serious then I don't think I've seen anyone thats more in denial than an Egyptian life guard.

Comments like this steer people away from the forum. It's now changed from criticism of the car and the methods Don is using into a personal attack.

You think it's a one way street?

I refer you to his reply to my first (tongue in cheek) post on this thread. Unfortunately I can't point you to the stuff he posted that's been (rightly) deleted, but there's enough personal stuff left to make it clear that he's got no problem with dishing it out.

This thread is going the way he decided to take it and is a reaction to the way he wants to play it. It doesn't mean that every build thread will go that way, so there's nothing for anybody to be afraid of.

Lol at you guys..

I expect a figure for welding and painting but not really anoyones business but mine... :)

The car really is not that bad.

It has rust and holes yes.... But then again this is a full restoration... Not trying to sell the car to anyone... Bit tired of repeating it, but happy it keeps you all going.

I like the car.

It has potential.

I love the colour.

It has my own touch on it being a full restoration.

Had Mr Rob Gaskin here this morning and he is a very lovely chap.

I imagine some of you are much the same and I would be happy subsequently for any other Z-club members to come over and share their, cars, inputs, opinions and criticisms..

Albrecht just makes me laugh and I ignore most of what he says, as he has been invited to come see it for himself, but not done so.... So he can not really comment on structural condition, but love the fact that he is soo involved in it and it winds him up sooo much that it will be the best 260 2+2 when done.

Might even have a lead on the first original owner of the car today... Would be nice for him to come see it, but we will wait and see.

No offence but what kind of response did you expect?

No disagreements at all in the way this build is going, like yourself and many others on here have stated, the body should've been the first and only thing to spend money on considering the state of it. Foolish to ignore this advice IMO.

I have to say one good thing to come out of this thread is the number of forum users who have posted. Often a thread will have about 5 contributors ( Sean is always one :)..) but looking at the people who have piped here,it must be "another" record. Suddenly we feel like a big e-family. We have folk who have lurked and Don has got them to hit the reply button on the keyboard as well. Splendid stuff!

In other news, I see you have polished the wheels..looking good or is it mint nowdays?

Are you serious? It was in reply to somebody who had just pitched up out of nowhere and expected people to come round to his house and give his car a free inspection.

My gently tongue-in-cheek response might have made anyone else realise that they were being perhaps a little, er, previous? But - like so much else has since - it sailed right over his head and he came back with personal insults. QED.

If you're worried about the forum/club I would suggest there are plenty of other potential problems that could be seen as more of a threat.
