Well the car now has no engine in it, ready for it's mini Winter refurb. There really isn't much to do on the 300 this winter, as much of it got done in the spring and throughout the summer, in between shows.

The engine bay does need a general tidy up and a respray, some rust in there needs addressing, although I don't think there's any welding to be done as far as I can see so far, but the engine does need a rebuild. Half way through the year we started getting blue smoke issues from the drivers side exhaust, we had already deleted the EGR and recirculation valves, so after trying many other things, it really only left 2 possibilities, the PCV system, or the piston rings.

We deleted the PCVs and changed the crank case breathing to be that of the old school. A K&N Filter, job done. Problem is, the problem persisted. Having now pulled the engine, the plenum is bone dry, as it should be with nothing but clean, filtered, compressed, cooled air going through it now, the turbo shafts appear to be rock solid, as we'd expect as both have been refurbished very recently and there is really only one possibility left, oil is getting past the rings somehow. Potentially a scored bore, or more likely a damaged ring, or possibly just a blown head gasket, I won't know until I tear the engine apart.

Thing is though, we decided to go the uprated route, so have purchased a spare block, spare heads and brand new Carillo rods with just 1000 miles on them. I've just finished stripping the block down ready for the engineers shop this coming week and will be ordering my pistons and bearings from the states tonight I think.

Well, engine is apart now, got my crank ready to go off, with the block and heads for machining. Checked all my bearings, all standard size, so that's a nice simple order with Z1 tomorrow for pistons and bearings. :driving:

I did scare the **** out of myself though. The oil pump is notoriously hard to get off the crank normally on a VG30. The last one I stripped down, it was seized onto the crank nose, the spare block I have looks like someone used a grinder to get the pump off..... So, I thought this time I won't muck about. I undid everything, lubed up the nose of the crank with lots of WD40 and grabbed my rubber mallet............smash, into the fecking tool chest went the oil pump! :cuss:

Starting to look like an engine again. There's actually more on it that in this pic, as I took this pic, then carried on working, lol.
