899 sales - UK 260Z ??

In the appendix (page 78) of "Essential Datsun Z" (by Colin Shipway), it states that 899 2-seater versions of the 260Z were sold in the UK.

This figure is repeated on page 122 of Brian Long's "Datsun Z Fairlady to 280Z"


Seeing as Chris Shipway's book is the earlier publication (and I know you're on this board) I'm curious to know where this figure has come ?

Good question Rob, I have wondered about this a little too. Generally, my search has been more concentrating on the number of Silvia (model I own) produced, as the number of 554 gets chucked about, but the source.....Nissan's own figures (and we know how good they are) don't even tally?
