I didn't realise that it was a 'closed' event, Steve - what a shame that one of the few times that it comes out to play, only a few people get to see it.
You'll have to marshal to get into the venue, then......

A great day out. Jarvis Datsun was going very very well but appears not to have finished.

Lovely forest, great sunshine, lots of action

    Pics to follow.

    What happened to Mr Pearcey?

DNS - he has a serious eye problem (retina) that requires surgery today. So he was advised/ordered not to take part. He was spectating and I met up with him.

Hugh it was a great rally for the spectator and having both Historics and Modern highlighted the huge advantage of FWD out of corners.

Lots of Subarus and Escorts as usual, but no Saabs - no doubt saving themselves for the R.A.C.

When spectating yesterday I was standing near a group of young guys and girls in their 20s.

When the Datsun came through one of the girls said 'that's my favourite car'. The lads knew it was a Datsun and said 'you've probably picked the most expensive car in the rally'.

It was far from it but it's nice to see the admiration for our cars.

Ugh! Sounds horrible! Good Luck, Duncan!

Good to see John Spiers' old car out again and 2 Zs entered for the RAC.

There are no less than 6 Saabs entered but sadly we are not one of them!
2 2-strokes, 3 V4's and an ex works 900 in the modern bit.

We'll aim to do 4 or 5 events next year but the Historic stage rally scene is a bit confused now with the RAC guys persuaded to put on a rival series (National B, all forest events) and the HRCR running 2 levels, National A for the BHRC, now sponsored by Mintex, and a National B "Old Stager Challenge" on the same events but with lower mileage!

    Hugh

This probably a stupid, neigh ignorant question....but how is the cooling assured with such a tight band of spots in front of the radiator ?

A quick return to better health Duncan.

I have never heard of a Z rally car having cooling problems, even with a full set of lamps fitted.
Some use an aluminium radiator but you need to check the legallity of this in Historic competition.
Were alloy radiators used in rallying "in period"?

Down to only the one 240Z on the RAC this weekend now, as Nick Jarvis's ( brand new ) Engine failed on the Premier, and the entry for the 'Z' has been pulled, to be replaced by ( yet another ) Escort from his Classic collection.

Thanks for the good wishes, by the way, guys - the eye's on the mend now.

It looks like Martin McCormack will win this years R.A.C. event in his Escort - a VERY talented young driver.

However I think Bob Bean deserves recognition for his drive in a Lotus Cortina! What a legend - when I was rallying 40 years ago he was a star. Now at 74!!!! he has had another fantastic result - his first RAC was in 1966 when England won the World Cup.

Robert Close finished 31st (unofficially) in his 240Z.

It's a great performance for any of the Crews to finish the event at all.
Saturday night in Kielder, pitch black, thick Fog, no road markings or pace notes - takes a lot of talent just to stay on the road at all....

It was a great event by all accounts and most people watching it have said it was just like the RAC Rallies of the 70s and 80's.
Don't know about that myself - I was too young to remember them.......

I just got the sad news that Kevin Videan, who as many will know drove a 240Z for Old Woking with me, passed away this morning whilst sitting in his MG.
Sad news of the loss of a fine 240Z driver and, for me, a good friend.
We had a lot of fun rallying together.
    RIP Kevin.
