Collateral Damage

This is what the body looked like after the event. Remember we were not pushing, can you imagine if we were?:eek: The pillars had strated cracking on day three of the event!!!

In addition to the rachet straps used to secure the roof + duck tape, we welded the pillars to the rollcage (picture 3)

Oh ....the 4th picture is the Chassis rail!! Even with the clearance the suspension offered there were still boulders big enough to do that.!!

Bored?

For those of you bored of seeing my battered 260Z

This was supposed to be the winning car. Ian Duncan ......

What can I say about this car? Shame he pulled out after gearbox trouble.

He was using two sets of PROFLEX suspension on each corner .... so by my calculation that is say ...... £20k plus .... just for suspension!!!!!!!

Thank you sir! I hope to bring you more!! Still waiting for some more pictures to arrive. Being the 2nd Driver, it was hard to take pitures and navigate!!! :D I could only take "still" pictures, waiting for a few more motion pictures. I could keep this thread alive until the 2009 event!

... Nothing means .... zero

Picture one .... I told you.... it was only the shell, even that contraption in the back was built in Kenya to hold/support the two spare wheels

Picture two ... We even had to weld the Mudflap brackets
Picture three ... Front Spot Lamp bracket bolted to bull bar
Picture four ..... Front Rad grill designed by myself!! Keep the stones and wildlife away from the Rad
Picture Five ..... front grill in, looking and I must say played the part!

.....6 days and counting to start day

By the way ....those front indicators never lasted ....they fell on the first day on the first stage!!!!!

Painfully

I had really lost control of time and never knew whether I wanted to sleep or just continue until I dropped to the ground. But things painfully came together. So much happened between these days that I would rather forget.

Pictures .... at least it looked like a rally car ......

As Laurence Evans would say ....."Shinny cars don't win rallies"

How many people do you need ?

How many people do you need to complete a Rally car in less than 14 days? Even I don't know!!

But these guys put in an effort that no one else would have. I owe this finish to them. No words of thanks will ever be enough!

Billy, if you are reading this ... I am sure someone will tell you ;) .... you are the man of the moment....... Jump as High as you want!!!! Asante Sana!!! ....Thank you very much

It's all been said before but well done. If I had a jealous streak in me then I would be. Only two rallies I have/had an ambition to do, the RAC (The original one) and the Safari. Done the one and will have the car to do the other, but I think costs will scupper the idea. Mind you I could do it on my credit cards but I think I might have to buy a canoe and disappear afterwards:D

Thanks Nigel!

I can only tell you one thing, I do not have a "well" for money. The money I did this on was not even a "shoe-string" budget ... it was a "hairline" budget. In Africa you need Suspension and as I have learnt ...a very strong shell!! You can do Africa on a Standard Engine. It has been said over and over again ...it is an endurance race. You put pedal to the metal you will break! On day 2, I was lying 30th overall. For a team that had no Safari Experience that was one hell of an achievement.

With a bit of Luck you get round and even the guy at the bottom stands a chance of at least getting into the top 20.

Go for it Nigel!!

Do it Nigel. And as HATARI states it can be done on a very tight budget. You need some local friends, helpers, well wishers to see you through;). The event is very finely balanced between being an endurance Vs speed one. Most novices unfortunately get excited and forget the endurance side of things and go for the speed. And on day 2, they find themselves spectating the event rather than participating in it:D:rolleyes:
