300z-wrecked

Hi all,

Just thought I'd take a moment to make you aware of the recent demise of my beloved Z

Coming home from work, last Thursday night, I'm just going to pick the missus up from Swanley station, round the corner before the station - to discover, right in my face, on my side of the road, 5 local scallies in a Mazda 323.

Time for one word only (you know the one) then SMASH - straight into my front off-side at about 45-ish (I think) mph - I reckon I was only doing 25-ish, as just about to turn off.

Suffice it to say - a little shocked, as I sat in a pile of broken glasss repeating "F4ck me" over and over again. Cut my hands to ribbons climbing over the passenger seat to get out, to find the Mazda smashed to a pulp and the five aforementioned "types" effecting a runner (or "limper" in a couple of cases)  In advance of the boys in blue.

I'm too shocked to know what's going on, but I can see that my beloved motor has saved me (thank Christ) from serious injury - cuts to hands on exit and stiff neck only.

As for the car - front offside wheel at a right angle and folded under the car, roof twisted and wing and some of door just ripped. Poor baby - I nearly burst into tears as I looked at my pride and joy sat in a pile of its own debris.

As for the cause of this accident, they got nicked when flagging down the ambulance - already out on bail as it goes and the word is from the WPC, they probably don't have a licence between 'em - of course, they immediately deny having been near the offending motor - "we were run over by a motorbike guvnor" - Bollocks.

I think there's enough of the driver on the steering wheel to tie it to him, plus one or two of his mates have placed him driving. Last I heard, the police are deciding what offences to prosecute for.

Anyhow, the rub is that me and the missus are due to go for a long weekend on Friday last at 5.30 a.m. So I've just got back and there's a zed-shaped hole on my driveway

God, I loved that car! F4ck me! F4ck me!

Steve, it looks like you need to update the stats on members' cars. <img src="http://www.zclub.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':('>

Hope you paid attention to the insurance debate on this website !
Seriously, there aint nothing worse than smashing your Z. I did it to my Dads' and he was so good to me...
Take a little time, choose your next Z carefully (time for a change of model?) and you will soon be tasting the pleasures again when the weather's better.

Sorry to hear your story, I know what I would feel like if it was my 240z, but like Steve says at least you were ok, hopefully you will soon be on the look out for another Zed.

Yeh John boy. Ditto on the sorry and sympathy mode Mate.
I think we will have a minutes silence for the passing of a good Zed. And a brave man for publishing the tale.

Thanks guys ... messages appreciated <img src="http://www.zclub.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

You're all correct, of course, the important thing is that I'm pretty much unscathed ....

As for a change of model, I'm not sure ... I think I'll be sticking with Z32 for my next motor; may need to get a stop-gap in the meantime to allow the selection of the correct one; I can remember what a long time it took last time round, and at least I had the benefit of an S14 to run round in!!

It will certainly restore a little of my faith in the UK justice system if the idiot driving the other motor gets what he deserves - not holding my breath though!

Thanks Guys,
John.

Ditto what others have said, hopefully the idiot will get a worthwhile punishment and hopefully sort himself out. If he doesn't then we can't complain because we as the people need to have changes made to the justice system. Anyway.

Run around, hmmmm what to chose, this is the fun bit now, looking at new cars. For under a grand you can get loadsa car nowadays, 2.9 4x4 Sierras erm, big ol Rovers, I know their not Jap but get something silly you wouldn't usually buy and you can have the experience of owning one then just in time to be returned to a Z <img src="http://www.zclub.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

Russ,

Thanks mate ... as for a stop-gap, well, immediately after the accident I had that momentary "buy a Volvo - stay safe" feeling, but now I've had a chance to think about it - I can't wait to get my hands on another Zed <img src="http://www.zclub.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'>

I can see from 300zx.co.uk that you're in the market for one too! (assuming you're Russ_t) Well, all I can say is - you won't be disappointed, they're feckin great <img src="http://www.zclub.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'> &nbsp;<img src="http://www.zclub.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'> I think as the guys have suggested, looking for a really good example is worth the time spent, although can be mega-frustrating <img src="http://www.zclub.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

Better make it quick, though, 'cos if there's a decent one around, I might just beat you to it!! <img src="http://www.zclub.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'>

BTW - couldn't agree more about the justice system - no word from the law as yet - glad I wasn't holding my breath!

CheerZ,
John.

Hey, what about a nice 1993 facelift 300ZX TT 2+2 auto import.  Has 60,000 km and is in excellent condition.  You can see it in the gallery.  I've owned the car for 5 yrs now.  Has new discs, rear shocks and battery.  Paintwork is excellent except for some micro blisters on the fibreglass rr spoiler.  Needs rubbed down and painted again.

Selling it in advance of my 350Z <img src="http://www.zclub.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'>

Only problem, the car is in N. Ireland.  Nice reg though (TAZ 5417). Sports exhaust no longer fitted.

Hey,

Yes that's me in 300zx.co.uk. Trying to learn a bit <img src="http://www.zclub.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'> I'm also at talkaudio.co.uk as Russ with the post about 300zx importing heh.

I agree you right about the waiting for the right example but I just got offered a 260z 2+2. Not a 240z which is what I'm after but its only £800!

Trouble is it's missing the bumpers and has this giant roll back cloth sunroof. I also wanted one with a tatty paint job so I could jusify a respray but it looks pretty clean heh. Another thing its a +2 and I really wanted a 2 seater. But at the price and how long I've been waiting its very tempting.

Lets hope I can hold out long enough to find the right example &nbsp;<img src="http://www.zclub.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>

Where are you to anyway john-boy? I'm not sure what model your after but theres always loads on autotrader.co.uk so hopefully something good will turn up.

I dunno about you guys but Zs are like hens teeth around me. In my whole life I've NEVER seen a 240/260/280 drive past and only a couple times a 300 &nbsp;<img src="http://www.zclub.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':angry:'> &nbsp;<img src="http://www.zclub.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':0'> &nbsp;

Ah well. Good luck finding a new car. I remember when my 306 didn't stop quick enough all I could think was "buy abs, buy car with bigger brakes, buy abs, buy car with more tyre on the road" but like you said it soon passes <img src="http://www.zclub.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

Datty,

Hmmm, that looks like a nice one (like the wheels and spoiler) - what a shame it's not a manual - that's what I really want, I'm afraid. Just out of interest, how much are you looking for, as I am contemplating finding out about the auto-manual conversion that gets talked about a lot on the "other" forum. I'm also holding out for a 350 ... should be getting made redundant later next year, and will have some cash on my hip! Still want a Z32 too, though <img src="http://www.zclub.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'>

Thanks for the offer.

CheerZ,
John. <img src="http://www.zclub.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

Russ,

I'm in Bearsted, near Maidstone in Kent.

Yeah, it's true, there's plenty in Autotrader, but there's a lot of autos, and a lot of imports too ... I really would like a UK manual, but then again, I'm tempted by the import low mileage factor ... hmmm, indecision.

As for the 260z 2+2, if it's in good shape, 800 nicker sounds like a bargain. I used to have one myself, and it was a great car, apart from the rot. I have to admit, though, the 2 seater is a nicer overall effect aesthetically, but I wouldn't discount it. Rollback sunroofs are the bizzo, though <img src="http://www.zclub.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'>. A mate of mine used to have a Volvo 144 with a huge rollback sunroof, and it was great in the summer.

Good luck with the search!

John. <img src="http://www.zclub.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'>
