280ZX - Gearbox?

Hi all,

I am looking at converting my 74 260z 4 speed into a 5 speed with a 280zx gearbox and r200 diff.

Before I purchased it I just would like some sort of confirmation on it being a 280zx box?

That doesn't look right, the back section looks too short and I think the front section should be 2 part.

Agreed. Nothing like an FS5C71-B or FS5W71-B.

Looks like a 'shorty' 56B to me. In any case, not what is required for an L6.

Yeah I have been trying to research all day to see if it matches up, would there be any ID numbers or anything so I can completely rule it out?

It rules itself out dimensionally, let alone anything else. It's simply far too short to fit an S130. The gearstick would need to be inside your radio...

The numbers in the factory identification codes for the transmissions are an indication of length. I think if you measure your original 4-speed transmission (for example, engine mating face of the bellhousing to the gear stick centre) you'll have a good reference to what is required.
