280z not listed in S30 forum

a thread headline should show all that it encompasses. it previously said s30 240 / 260.
i am on here and dont see 280z or s31. whether or not it was sold in uk or not, it should be advertised. if s31 is part of the s30 group then why not say that in the headline for amateurs like me

also, my statement of not caring what it was, was to prevent this in-depth crap and also, i dont care whether mine actually is S30/S31. when i ordered her i said "240,260, 280 yeah grand, maybe with a skyline RB engine"
that is as much as specified or cared for.

still, it must be noted that the thread headline is (still) not all inclusive. how is a newbie like me supposed to know (if they so desired) the differences if they are omitted from the headings?

can i also note that ive been told different things regarding my car from this specialist site?

again, dont tell me what i care about.

Appreciate people like the count because when you're in need of this kind of information you'll be very grateful there are people around that do care about the subtle differences and correctness of information. And when they try to sway you to their kind of thinking don't take it personally, just do a "Oh right, cool, thanks for the information" and let it wash over you

So you didn't actually get what you ordered, then? Your car is not a '240', '260' or '280' is it? Oh sorry, that's "in-depth crap" isn't it?

What "specialist site"? As far as I'm aware, this forum is run on a voluntary basis and you have to decide for yourself who knows what they are talking about and who doesn't. Maybe you're also getting confused about some of the comments you have received on the VicZcar forum in Australia, as half the people there didn't seem to know what you had actually bought either.

The "specialist" you might want to ask about all this is the 'specialist' that sourced the car for you. Surely they must know what they sold you?

despite my lack of knowledge in this arena, i do not want to be told what i feel or talked down to.

it is not conducive to the spread of information, its a barrier.

now, if chassis codes are being used to distinguish between models, will the S31 be included in the heading?

again yes that is in-depth crap. 240/260/280 are cover terms for a shape. i now own a car of that shape. happy days.

again you are commenting and presuming things. my importer is an importer. i never implied that they were some sort of Z importer, mostly they get all the modern stuff. i got an S15 through them previously and was happy so said get me an oldie. that they did.

Older examples are only disappearing slowly so what you've got is a good 'un that wasn't intended to be here. That can only make it a curiosity and even more welcome here. In all seriousness, you were given the correct information about the true factory identity of your car weeks ago - and yet you seem to choose to ignore it. You started this thread talking about your "280Z". Can you honestly be surprised if the people that took the time to give you the correct information get cheesed off when they see you apparently blank it, or throw it back in their face whilst calling it "in-depth crap"?

also, what do i call her? the number references are far handier. im not gonna go around like a spa calling it a C-S31.

it originally had a 2.0 litre engine, im equally not calling her a 200Z.

fairladyZ sounds like a manga styled period soap drama on tv

its got an L28, so 280Z is handier.

Nay, because it's already covered by the forum description. The point made in this thread was that there are SOOO many different Zs if we included say a C-S31, then we'd equally have to include a lot of others (for example I want my CZ32 mentioned specifically) and it'd open the flood gates to the worlds longest forum name

Cool! It's always good just to get a debate going regardless of who's annoying who. I reckon 280Z is cool. Like you say, it's got an L28 which is 280 anyway. I still like the sound of Fairlady though. You're right, in as much as it's about as English as a high school prom but we even have those too. I reckon it'd be pretty easy to just include a new section in the S30 section or indeed title it S30/31. Not too hard really.

Yeah it'd be easy, but then what happens when someone says "I want 200ZR, I want 300ZR, CZ32, GCZ32, HCZ32" etc etc and we get into all the specific models that most of us have never heard of, it'd be an enormous list.

As you can see at the beginning of this thread I was all for jumping on adding extra models, but then go reminded (smacked down! lol) that we've already been here, had this discussion, and the conclusion last time was that if we note the UK models, and then tip our hat towards all the other variations (which we have)

This is the first S31 I've heard of, and possibly(?) the only one in the club There are other models we haven't specified which there are more of about. Also much as it's none of my business I wouldn't say it's a 280Z, otherwise by the same logic all the rover v8 S30s would be 350zs etc I wouldn't feel any less welcome because it doesn't say S31 at the top, I'd feel more exclusive. I keep calling my car a CZ32 but most people don't know/care what variant that makes it, I don't mind

i always tell people that (i have a 1974 fairlady Z the same shape as a 260Z) as i find that if you say a 280z they always think it is the same as a 280ZX.

but that would be to people with some idea of what a z car is. I thought that shape was all 240z, had no idea of 260 or 280 variants. nevermind the 80s machinery.
i reckon if i went that route it would be more like this
"i have a fairlady Z thats the same as the 280Z which is the same shape as the 240Z"

then i think the reply would be "um, repeat?"
then after that, "explain"

so thats why when i got her originally, i called it a 240z, but then the corrections began...!
