Hi Everyone. Some advice sought please. I have been out of the Z scene for many years and have decided it's time to get back in, unfortunately, my 260Z 2str, having spend the best part of a decade outside under wraps, needs some extensive restoration work. (floor pan, firewall, right wing etc) The thing is, considering that many thousands of pounds need to be spent to get it road worthy, who should I entrust, a Z specialist or a trusted generic classic car restoration company. I hope to be moving to the Peterborough area in a few months, and was hoping some members could point me in the right direction. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Yes, move to the Peterborough area! Then we can have a meet ...

I think you pays yer money and takes yer choice - plenty on here will have suggestions of where to take it - a few owners Milton Keynes way have had cars resprayed there and bodywork done - which isn't too far. I think it is nice to have somewhere you can take the car which isn't essentially a WHOLE day out. I'd go with somewhere that is recommended, rather than a specific Z place - unless you feel happier with that - but there are always other things to take into consideration - budget, location etc ...

I think based on recent pics/details/experience you've got to give fourways a call. MZR do not currently undertake customer cars, they're the only two 'safe' specialists with a proven history, currently.

Many thanks for that. Any chance of the names of the garages, I would like to visit before committing. :)

Many thanks for that. Any info on the Z Farm, they're closer I believe.

It would be useful to get some images up on the website of the work that requires doing. There are a lot of people on here who could advise you on the best approach to take and there might even be members who would help out themselves.

Just have a search on here. Fourways would be about same sort of travel time.

    Hi Pete

Might be worth looking into the Samuri motor Company ( link below ). Mids/Northants border.

As said above you could try MZR, would guess they are busy with their 50th anniversary model.
I could recommend them, have had work done by them.

Four ways Engineering, never had a car restored by them. Although I bought another Z a few weeks ago that had been restored by them, bodywork and underneath still in fantastic condition 7/8 years later.

Or you could think outside the box, take it to Romas DCW in Europe to have restored.Their work looks fantastic also. Link below ,if it doesn’t work,I’m sure Sean has a better link.

I did enquire a few years ago about another Z ,a friend said he’d restore it for me,still in his garage now. With hindsight wish I’d given the car to Roma’s.

There’s a couple of quite cheap but good people in Europe. I’ll find the links.

I’d look for a proven history over a good few years. Being able to see the car is quite valuable.

Do your research as due diligence will help you make up your mind.

The slight problem in a proven history is it depends with whom one speaks.

I'll be taking mine to Resto Shack, worth taking a look at them, I'm going there because I've been impressed with their work and I believe I can trust them to do a top job.

Wont be able to give first hand opinion until the work starts whihc will be in April but I find it hard to trust anywhere, however I've seen enough of their work to let me trust them.

Mr Tenno is in MK - he has had a respray done (and some bodywork I think) - but not sure where.

If you mean Resto Shack in Devon you are in good hands. Dave is a top bloke and has painted a couple of 240Z for me and fully restored a Porsche 912.

As in, continuous trading, bad press on forums, suppliers not being paid etc.

You don’t have too look hard
