260z Brake upgrade Z32 calipers

I’ve been playing around with this for a while since picking up a set of 300zx calipers. I always thought it would be good to have Nissan calipers on the car.
I did an Autocad design and transferred this onto plywood as a prototype, I’ve followed this with a real version cut from 3/4” 2014 t6 aluminium. Final finishing has been done with a drum sander I made, the end result looks professional and obv cheaper than milling or laser cutting and only took an afternoon incl making the sander.
If anyone’s interested I can let u know what the discs are, I think they’re about 293mm, fitting 15” wheels may be close.

Would be interested to see if it clears 15" wheels.

I assume you have re-drilled the discs to 4x114.3PCD ? Any spacers used in the making of this set up ?

Stock 240z hub?

Hi,

Stock 260z hub which is slightly different offset I believe? But I don’t see why it wouldn’t work, there is an 8mm spacer under the alu bracket to get the caliper centered on the disc.
Discs are re-drilled, so I had to plug one bolt hole and re-drill on a smaller PCD. Discs were dead cheap so worth an experiment.

I haven’t any 15” wheels off a z to try it with yet, nearest I had was a spare Audi 16” and there was loads of room, so unsure on 15” z fit.

I've been playing round with brackets to , mine are R32 calipers, which I think are the same as the Z32 ones ? Are yours ally or steel ?
Which disc's did you use ? I'm using the R32 disc but they are about £150 a set

mine just fit under my 15" rota's

I’m on alloy calipers. I believe they are the same as R32 calipers.

I’ve attached a couple of images for the calipers below and link here. They’ve gone up a bit as they were only £22 ea when I bought them.

This is brilliant; thank you for sharing. .

Now the million dollar question is will your set up clear 15" wheels and more importantly, where do I form a queue for the adapter bracket and modified discs

There’s a bit more work needed, it really needs built up on a car to confirm there are no clearance issues and importantly that it works!

I've been doing some checks and the Z32 caliper is used on a 30/28mm thick disc (R32 GT-R is 32/30) , so starting with a 28mm disc you might want to check how much of the piston travel is left @ 26mm , just to make sure .

Just had a look at this, don’t reckon it will be too much of an issue, esp as I wouldn’t run the pads down to the backing plates, and would expect to get thro the discs to quickly.
Are u running a 297mm disc?
Any chance you can confirm the ID of the wheel rim local to the caliper

I got some willwood dynalite calipers to play with and going to try some mx5 280mm vented discs as did not want to go over kill on the brakes, keep the weight down and to fit under 15 wheels.

Discs are 294mm gtr items 32mm thick, I will have a measure inside the rim this week for you to check diameter

@Turn & Burn Did you install your Z32 brake kit? I just realized that the aluminium calipers are only $80 each from Rock Auto, so this would be a much better (lighter) upgrade compared to the heavy 4runner truck calipers.

They’re sort of installed, calipers mounted, I’m just working through the disc conversion. If u use Wilwood discs on bell adaptors the whole hub assembly (disc/bell/hub) comes up lighter than an off the shelf vented rotor on its own. There’s a separate thread called Brake Concerns or something like that. All the current brake related stuff is on that. I’ll weigh it all and add some detail on the other post.
Make sure that’s the right calliper, it sounds too cheap. They’re usually a lot more than that.

This is awesome work! Any update on how the conversion went? Does it fit under 15" wheels?

I'm looking to do the same thing - would be great if you could share the drawing for the caliper adapter with dimensions (or even better the CAD file)
