Sounds like the rear brakes are binding slightly, check the slave cylinder piston is free to move properly.

Push the tops of the brake shoes left and right against each other to check for movement of the piston, might be best to just disassemble and re-fit everything.

Make sure there is a smidge of brake/copper grease on the contact points of the shoes where they move against the back plate.

Re the indicator problem: Duration of each flash is a function of the current passed, so faster flashing means more current and slow flashing means less current. (Thats why if you have a bulb out it flashes really slow)
So in your case I suspect you'll have some corrosion on passenger side bulb or fittings, causing higher resistance and flowing less current. Is one of the passenger side bulbs dim? Start there.

Check the hazard switch wiring harness connector, just behind the switch itself, the wiring for the indicators is routed through this.
Do the indicators flash correctly with the hazard switch?

failing that, could be a fault with the indicator relay and/or wiring, its in the driver footwell to the right, above the fusebox, but its a PITA to access!

If you had the drum off, did you clean everything with brake cleaner? removing as much dust and crud as possible

Are the pads worn down over 50%, generally they dont wear evenly, thats just the way it works with drum brakes unfortunately,
if so the contact area might not be as optimum as it should be, meaning more heat and thus noise. you could try rubbing down the pad surfaces with medium/coarse sand paper as evenly as possible, best done off the car! also helps to remove any glaze on the pads from the over heating
