I assume those figures are just for 260- and not 280? -so 2+2s outsold the 2 seater?Off the top of my head I know there where 899 2 seaters sold & I think 1700 & something 2+2's sold in the uk.
It is a shame this car is a 2+2 if it where a 2 seater several of us would be fighting over it. It looks a fantastic example.

Figures are for 260z, yes there where alot more 2+2's sold in the uk than 2 seaters, both models are very thin on the ground now it would be intesting to know how many of each model still exist.

NO! punters were forced into buying a car they didn't want in THAT year.
It was a case of "Owt's better than Now't" if you wanted a Z it had to be a 2+2.

People wanted the 2+2 and the 2 seater was there for those who didn't - Nissan did their marketing right - in France only the 2+2 was sold !
Question is, was the 260Z 2 seater sold eleswhere in Europe and in what numbers ?
Also look what happened with the 280ZX - the 2 seater was also available but what sold most............................? Nissan got it right and they are there to sell cars - it's onlt with the 350 and 370 that they've gone back to 2 seaters as the model !

BUT, there was a 12 month period (someone like the count will know for definate) where you could only have the 2+2 coz the 2 seater wasn't selling too well but you should have still had the choice.
Can you imagine Ford not selling a booted version of the Focus or Mondeo for a period coz it didn't sell as well..........NO.

Don't forget it was Datsun UK a private concession and no Nissan who made the calls re the UK imports and sales.
Also, maybe the two seater S30 production was too busy elsewhere (yes I know these were RHD but I can't claim to know if they were on the same production line(s), maybe the RHD 2 seater S30s were being better sold elsewhere...
Because import quotas were limited and expensive, there was prhaps more profit to be made on 120Ys and Cherrys, Bluebirds etc or let's say less capital tied up for less time.
My point is : it's not necessarily because the 2+2s were selling better that the 2 seater was dropped.
All this should be compared with other markets to put it into perspective and then throw in local and Nissans' marketing strategies !

I think you are right for once
there was an import quota on all Jap cars so it would be senseless to import 2 seaters no one wanted when they could have had a lot more cherry's they knew would sell.

No it wouldn't have - that's a different market, you'd have sold less and how many people with that budget (new car budget) have children of a low age to need to have small bucket seats ?
Nissan don't care about second-hand sales - that's not what drives the conception of a top value sports-car.

The long & short of it is the 240 & 260 2 seater are gorgeous the 2+2 is just so wrong, each to there own I guess, the only thing I'd do with a 2+2 is break it for parts, OH by the way where did all those 2+2's go ? they are very thin on the ground considering so many where sold in the uk. If everyone was truthful you would find everyone thinks they are ****, everyone in the Z world that I know & I know a few to few to mention :lol: thinks they are **** bar Sean.
