Looks like a good deal at that price, even if it's hiding a few surprises which it undoubtedly will be. I'd be tempted if I already had my new house with the garage for it! Does look to be in really good nic superficially and that's the original paint right as its got the nasty stripes?

Has he sent you any photos of the underside?

Do you know where in the US it's spent its life? Dash is cracked so presumably the west? Iowa isn't particularly dry is it so would be surprised if its been there the whole time.

Also how much would it cost to rebuild the head and get the engine installed?

Also worth bearing in mind that because it's in Iowa, you'll have to pay a fair chunk of cash just to get it to a port.

Looks very nice for the money with what looks like some surface rust here and there.
The only area I would question is the flaking paint on the chassis rail in front of the brake NP valve.
It may be nothing except old paint, but you sometimes see paint flake in a pattern like that when the metal below has deformed.

Even if had some frontal damage, it is still a cheap enough base, without taking transport costs into consideration of course.

£8k, plus shipping etc, say £10k landed?

add a new roof, removing all the moulding trims and whatever is trapped behind you the other bits. It’s got to be on the money not ‘cheap’

Not sure if you've come across the info yet but all sunroofs are aftermarket additions - removing one in theory requires an entire roof skin to do correctly.

You are wasting your time. It's probably on its way already to a serial 280Z collector based in France :)

Honestly I had no idea about that (I thought it was a test before going for t-tops. But I would still be OK with it and I wouldn't change it.

Nooooooooooo. Let the rest of us have soomeee... Haha =p

Hmmm - I have received the extra photos I requested - the issue now is the land-transport cost to the nearest port and like youn, it's a 280Z so I'm not so bothered by the sunroof but have a f/g version handy in case.....

Yes, going to a Western port like Portland, Seattle, or SF Bay area might still be $1,000 or so....if your lucky you might find someone to do it for less.

All that strange lower moulding, with rusted screws(guessing a metal reaction), what about what could be going on behind?

That lower moulding is often seen on 280Z models and was an optional dealer fit when new.
It's not something that has been retro-fitted to hide anything and usually nothing of concern lurking underneath.
Just a nuisance as they are riveted on and leave holes when taken off.

At $8k that car is a decent buy even with the extra inland haulage costs to the port........but the 80's just called, they want that glass sunroof back!

As an aside, wonder if anyone has ever owned/seen an S30Z with a Webasto roof?
Common fit on MGB GT, E Type coupes, Alfa 105 etc back in the day and much more in period/nicer than a pop-up glass affair.

There are a few webasto roof zeds around.

I'm not sure I'd pay this kind of money based on those poor pictures. It could be a bargain but then again it may not.

".....and sports a few dealer-optioned items, including a vinyl sunroof....." ?

I do like a full 'Webasto' sunroof, usually in black but colour-coded is even better. I'd fit one any day over re-roofing an '80s version !

That was my line of thinking, still available new....

I prefer the standard black finish to colour coded.

So did you take your interest in the car any further on receipt of photos?
