Quick Question to ask as I cannot find any definitive answer. I have been breaking down the engine to replace seals and gaskets etc as there appeared to be some fairly bad oil issues with the car.

When I took off the crankshaft pulley the front pulley sheered (looks like it had been repaired at an earlier date). I would like to replace it but cannot find the part for just the front section. Then I started looking and wondered if it's even needed. It looks like the car had AC fitted at some point. Is this a remnant of that?

There was a thread recently about someone machining that outer pulley off, so i would say yes it's probably fine, but i'll let someone else with proper engine knowledge confirm that!

You did a fantastic job on that dash. Much much better than covering it with a plastic cover.

Looking forward seeing the car come together

Thank you. The car is about as far from finished as it's possible to be at the moment, with the garage just full of bags of bits.

I am hoping it will come together well.

Just had a large box of engine components through for the rebuild. Was not meant to arrive until next Wednesday but RockAuto always seems to anticipate a weekend. That my days set in the garage.

Anyone have any advice on spindle pin removal. Tried a blow torch. Tired a mallet. Tried a sledge hammer. Tried making a spindle pin remover with a stud connector and M12 rod. I have tried magic. Nothing has worked yet to even budge them at all. In all the work I have now damaged them to the point where I need to get them out to replace them. Does anyone have any advice?

Yeah that came out with tiny tap. All the bolts are off and free. Heated thoroughly today and made another spindle pin extractor from some M12 rod and 5omm Ali box section. Still did not budge to the point that I snapped the 3mm thick steel washer.....

At what point to I accept defeat and think of drilling them out. That said, I really don't want to do that.

Maybe take the whole arm off and soak it in a bath of diesel/heating oil for a few days. With your spindle pin extractor under tension.

I think I ended up cutting mine with a hacksaw blade between the strut and suspension arm. Once I had them separated they were easier to deal with.

Another Update.

The gearbox was completely caked in oil, dirt, and American road mess so I got out the pressure washer and started to hose it down. In cleaning it up I came across something quite peculiar. A large hole near the clutch fork. So I decided to disassemble the gearbox to see if anything had come loose but could not see anything so I have no idea where this hole came from.

I am planning to take it to my metal mate who can hopefully weld in a small section of ally to fill and then I will rebuild and spray. Or shall I just look at getting a new housing?

Where do you think this hole came from?

I also noted that the gearbox main shaft has a large amount of play in the arm, only being stopped by the other gear (see the 4 photos) is this normal?
