240Z rebuild

Been watching since the beginning and the whole restoration seems completely disorganised. With the amount of work he has done to the car and continues to do he should have done a complete bare shell rebuild. He spent so much time on the paint work but is skimping in other areas.

He took the fuel tank out the other day and didn't even take the sender unit out to have a good look inside the tank. When he put it back the fuel filler had an obvious split it the end which is only going to get worse. The dash is a difficult one. I know people have restored them by filling and so on but how they will fair long term.... All he has done is put a dash cap on, it will hopefully look better once in the car.

I do wonder what's happened to the Porsha engine he spent time in America building, seems to have completely dropped off the radar.

I think the dash looks so so so so so much better second time round. Lots have been repaired on the US forums, using flexible stuff and have stood the test of time.

'Aceman' on here did a great job also.

Lol, he likes to do a lot of stuff twice, probably does not help that he has a early 240Z with 260Z suspension. I was surprised he had not removed the tank before painting the car.

So what do we think of this episode? Lack of any planning is beginning really show imho.

You're right. And lots of these problems could have been avoided by looking more closely at the parts in hand and comparing them to the data in the factory workshop manual and factory parts manual.

As posted elsewhere, skimping on the correct factory cowl tab grommets (with cut up pieces of rubber tube!) is both false economy and an embarrassment. He has a home workshop and equipment to die for (I do my stuff in a rented lock-up with no power...) and yet he's rushing through and doing stuff back to front, mixing and matching parts without knowing what's what (the reason the brake calipers would not fit was because the front hubs came off a 260Z, and they have a different offset than the 240Z type the car was originally fitted with...) and putting himself under pressure to get the next episode up.

I admire the 'Home Built' philosophy, but it doesn't have to be Dr Frankenstein's home...

Just how do you do your stuff in a rented lock-up with no power? Always intrigued by statements like this ... presumably it has a power supply for lighting?

I started watching this guy's stuff a while back, but haven't watched any for a while ... lack of time atm.

It now transpires he has two different doors? How can that even work? I thought the later doors had internal latch mechanisms.

Not sure I'd have the balls to sand new paint or any paint for that matter.
