Scratch that, just read your earlier post!

How much might it cost to get that work done, anyone got a ball park figure?

Around £1000 to £2,000, maybe a bit more or a bit less.

That's based on purchasing a decent ECU, manifold, injectors, lambda sensor and a day tuning on a rolling road.

Ah ok, that's not too bad. Makes it seem kind of tempting ;) Would that include the labour cost of someone doing all that?

And what there be any cons to doing that? Would it maybe not sound as good due to losing the carb?

Thanks for the info George!

George.

I based that on you doing most of the work, it's been a while since I went ECU shopping, there are people in the US now that even offer looms and ECUs for Turbo conversion, so it may be fairly straightforward to do a lot of the work yourself.

ProTunerz have Mega Squirt ECU and loom kits but they are not that cheap once you add shipping and VAT/duty.

I think you probably need to add a grand onto your estimate to do it properly.
Having a robust fuel system with a forced induction engine is crucial as running lean can kill an engine extremely quickly.
I would imagine OEM 280ZX plenums and fuel rails are pretty scarce and the NA 280ZX plenum is smaller than the 280Z version.
If you use a 280Z plenum, you will be limited to 280 ZXT injectors unless you swap to an aftermarket fuel rail.
Also, the OEM 280Z FPR is vacuum referenced and doesn't have a barb to hold the reference hose in place under boost conditions.
Plus I don't know how the OEM FPR would perform under boost instead of vacuum.
Then you'll need a decent fuel pump like a Bosch 044 or similar.

Agreed, you will need some extra bits like you mentioned, can be done on a budget and been there.

Also done it the other way too.

Depends on what your budget is and what your aiming for.

Had a good look over this car at Historics Windsorview Lakes last Friday, and the price it sold for was a lot more than I would have been prepared to pay for it, but then most of the lots achieved high prices after they had added commission and VAT.

It might appear mental but used car prices are at an all time high. Most Porsche models are up 10-20% in the last 7 months.

True. I keep a close eye on the E46 M3 market and they're crazy prices too. I could easily sell mine for £5k more than I paid for it a year ago.

Oh well, maybe by the time I can afford a Zed they'll have come down in price a bit ;)
