Kameari make very nice pistons and rods, you can get them from rhdjapan.com or direct from Kameari. They are expensive at the moment though. JE pistons will make you some L24 pistons that are more affordable. You can get rods from maxspeeding rods via ebay that are normally good quality and cheap.

All the best and most handsome members are in Devon - as Franky has said before :EXTRAlol:

I get to quite a few meets up and down the country so you are welcome to tag along and I'll introduce you to the regulars.
No specific local club activity in Devon but we usually go to classic racing meets at Castle Combe, Silverstone, Donington, Oulton Park, Goodwood, Spa, Le Mans etc
Bicester Heritage is the best of the static shows.
Whereabouts in Devon are you?

I don't know a way to tell which kind of valve seats you have without looking. You may be able to see with a borescope without taking the head off.
Most people go to 44/35 valves. If you keep stock 83mm bore you'd need a small notch on the block for the exhaust valve. If you take it out to 83.5 or more you won't need to notch it.

To be honest I'm new to the Datsun club, and haven't been to any meets I'm down in Devon I don't know if there would be meets nearish me.

Im looking around for lightweight pistons for the L24 and rods but it seems like most are either l26 or l28 engines.

For a E88 head is there anyway of telling if I would have the style with softer valve seats without taking the head off I'm pretty sure I know the answer which is no.

Also can anyone recomend a brand for head items and valve sizes I can run without having piston/bore clearance issues.

you need to look at Kameari, they do stock size pistons, small pistons, dinner plate size pistons, at very sensible prices, cheaper than forged pistons in the UK!!

All the other bits needed also.

Phil, this is a great read if you haven’t seen it already ...

Edit: here’s something I once read - the early E88 heads had a skinny E and uniform 88 in the casting marks and the later heads had uniform 3 characters. One difference being that the early ones had the smaller valves and the later ones had the bigger valves. Not sure what that means for valve seats though.

Thankyou I will email JE and see what they say I may go for 84mm to give me clearance if I go bigger valves, would you recomend piston notches for valve clearance?

To me that looks pretty uniform but let’s make no assumptions about Nissan being consistent ;)

I think you will only know for sure when you pull the head - unless someone knows any subtle other differences. [emoji848]

Did the Nissan engines come painted as standard as my block is red as above and I'm intrigued if it's had any work done to it as atm I haven't got it running yet. I want to do this before I strip the car down to restore

They were painted blue (factory Nissan engine block blue) from the factory.

A red-painted block would tend to indicate that an engine has been 'rebuilt' once at the very least...

Have you looked at the actual Kameari Engine Works website? I don't mean RHD Japan's small selection from it...

This one?

http://www.kameariengineworks.co.jp/

If so google translate will be useful beyond the front page! ;) Unless of course there is an English version I didn’t spot?

As Franky said - drop them an email with what you are trying to do and they are pretty good at responding with good advice.
