    Hi folks,

Finally on the rebuild part of my restoration!!

I'm soon to reassemble the front end and I've been looking at the old bumper parts etc. You can see from the picture below that the car has had some form of spacer between the bumper and the bodywork. I'm guessing this was some sort of american requirement back in 1973. You can see the white metal bar - It also has rubber inserts to go at either side (not featured in this pictures).

I'd prefer not to have to replace the bumpers just yet, so was wondering if anyone has a simple solution that does not involve lots of cutting and welding? I did wonder if cutting off the ends of the bumper supports, may be a viable solution?

Any tips of this issue gratefully received.

    Thanks all, Graeme

A couple more pictures. I'm guessing it's the rods / mounts where I need to do the work, but definitely looks as though it will require cutting. Just not sure about brackets / fitting and things lining up ok. Also, i believe these are the spacers I have. Screenshot 2019-07-12 at 21.24.26.jpg

My car is the same , the bumper mounts on different points to an early bumper , and also has different mounting brackets welded in to the bumper

The easiest solution is to get an early bumper and brackets and it all just bolts on

Hmmm, quite an expensive import from the USA - especially when I have a bumper and bracket. Suspect I may need to do some fabricating.

You could get/make some early brackets and modify them ,

I've brought some but havnet got round to it yet, but it will probably involve some welding

It is possible to make anything fit and I would probably adapt early 240 bumper irons to fit your federal bumpers. You will also need to fabricate corner mounts on the bumpers to mount to the headlight buckets.
