I'm strugglin to find a battery that fits the battery tray of my 74 240z.
I tried the local factors to see what battery "type" it should use, but unsurprisingly they don't list it.
I've tried two diffo batteries so far, but they are either to short or to high
Does anyone know what the proper battery "type" should be?

Also is the battery clamp on the 240 and 260 the same, as I'm not sure that isn't part of the problem?

just had a look at mine which fits perfectly, it's a Bosch Silver 7A (12V, 70 Ah, 510A)

    Part no. 570 072 051

    Cheers :)
Does yours use a clamp that goes right around the top of the battery n is held down by a long hooked stud n nut? Does it fit the clamp properly?

Has anyone got a pic of the battery in situ (facing down on it)

Yes, it has the clamp going all the way round with the long hooked bolt securing it.

Here is what it looks like--->

Cheers Wyn, she is in pretty good shape for a 73.

Yours may be missing those bits but don't worry, mine is missing some carbs which yours has. The wires are for the Electronic Fuel Injection. (Early 280ZX engine with all the EFI gubbins).

If its any help the part number on the battery on my 240Z is 072, which I think ties in with the middle numbers in George's Bosch battery part number

I'll quote George's bosch number to the local bosch agents, n see what they come up with :)

069 and 072 are both valid battery I.D. numbers in general usage. 069 is usually a standard battery and 072 is heavy duty. The original battery was a Yuasa N50Z - if you can still find these, they look very authentic.

The battery frame also should have a plastic battery cover with separate filler cover, but you would need to check that these would fit your battery as they were designed for the Yuasa or equivalent.

I shall go in search of a battery now.

btw, Luckily I have the plastic tray and a plastic top cover :)

I've got the plastic battery tray, but what is the filler cover? Has anyone got a photo please?

Getting the battery into position without touching the bodywork and shorting something is a bit like that game in the 80's called operation. :D

Thanks for the pic Wyn, so does this go on top of the battery,??

Never seen this before, what's it for ?

Yep, it goes on top of the battery n the square brkt clamps that down in place

Not sure if it should have another smaller cover over the central part tho
I guess it's meant to stop the brkt from digging into the battery?

The filler cover is a separate piece which clips onto the big oval hole!

Thanks Mike, so what is the purpose of all these bits, is it to protect any shorting of the battery onto the bodywork?

@Wyn I’m curious, which battery did you go for in the end. I’ve got same issue. New one does not fit. Needs to be available in the UK.

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks, Graeme
