240 rear light lenses

What's everyone's thoughts on me being able to supply brand new coloured or clear 240 rear light lenses?? I have heard they might not be many if any new ones left.
These will have nothing to do with frp and will be made with new tooling and the correct plastic by a company that specialises in that sort of thing.
The tooling is a fortune and not something I could make so I would have to pay for that.
I would have to sell them on for something like 220 quid a pair and shift a lot of them.
I know a 40 grand resto job would snap them up but is that figure likely to scare the hell out of the average z owner??
Any thoughts??

Would that be just the lense, or would that include the backplate and the plastic chromed strip accross the middle?

That would seem a good price, and would likely shift well in the US at that too.

Euro lights seem very popular over there!

I think there is aftermarket sets for sale over the Pond...I don't think there are enough 240z within UK/Europe to "shift a lot of them". Coupled with the fact some S30 owners gulp at spending £40...... Also the outside lens can polish up quite nicely, and considering this is what is seen on the car, why not do that instead.

My thoughts...

I think long term it'd be a good move, you could sell in the UK/AUS/Europe/USA.

How much is a used set of uk 240z rear lights now days? £300+?

Thanks guys, Ian I appreciate there are not enough cars in the uk to really justify the outlay but as Francy said potentially other markets?? Do you know how much the Aftermarket USA lenses are selling for or have you a link??
Cheers

Same I think, i've got some UK and US ones here, i'll put them side by side and have a look in a few days.

The Americans like them for the JDM look.

Aceman were yours new usa ones???
Thanks Sean , what with the exchange rate yours will be $499 a side:rofl:

Nope!

Last time I saw them for sale in the US they were $899 (plus delivery and import), so I took a second hand set from the UK for £300. May have found cheaper, but I just grabbed the first set that came up.

If you do some for £220 a pair, I'd have a set for spares (I'm trying to turn into a spare parts hoarder!!)

EDIT: This was the day I got the Zed, so knew little about parts etc, other than that a new set from the states was gonna hurt unless I prepared with the KY...

Craig,
These will be really sort after if you can replicate correctly.
I will sell for you in Japan if it helps.
Real shortage on o.e and repro lamps over there as well.
Last two sets of nos lamps sold for £2100 and £2700 respectively!!
Both in the last couple of months.
If anyone knows of a company that re plate those centre plastic strips here in the uk that opens more options.

£220 sound cheap then.............

I thought it was expensive tbh for what they are. I was going to bung a decent bit on for P&P to make some beer money but it appears I may need to look again!
I guess I don't take this sort of stuff as seriously as I should:unsure:

Craig,

Please be aware ( and wary ) of the fact that you'll need to erase the original manufacturer's name - as well as any 'E' and SAE numbering - from any reproductions.

This was necessary when a short run of repros was manufactured in Japan a few years back. The original manufacturers are very litigious.......

Is everyone talking about the lenses only? I get the impression some of the higher figures mentioned are for the whole light assembly?
