good evening, I managed to buy the car for £15,000 it turns out to be a one owner, the wife of the previous owner has keep it stored since her husband passed away, its has a full service history up until 86 and nothing other than storage charges there after.
The plan is to keep it totaly original and just get it back onthe road as soon as possible, ive stripped the carbs for cleaning and the fuel tank seems to be sludged up
please could any one suggest a good contact for general mail order service parts and also could anyone recomend any cleaning agent for the petrol tank and fuel lines to clean out what seems to be tar like sludge
The long term plan is to get it perfect whilst useing it just hope im up to the task
thanks for all the interest i will post a few relivent photos of the parts of the car that are so nice that i think it worth a look
happy days
Carl

Rockauto are great for general service parts and more (always use fedex delivery to get the duty paid in advance).

I'd start with petrol as a solvent for your sludge. if that doesnt work, try detergent.

Congrats on the purchase - shows these UK survivor cars are still hidden out there.

The principal UK Z specialist garage business is Fourways Engineering in Kent; there's also the Z Farm in N. Yorkshire (MZR Roadsports in Bradford, which you may come across, are a bespoke operation - think Singer for Zs - so not really "open to the public" so to speak). But as far as general parts supplies and service items, there is no longer a go-to source in the UK. Rockauto is the most cost-effective and quick US source, and then there are businesses such as Z Car Depot, Motorsport Auto, JDM-Car-Parts, Z Car Source, etc., all in the US with wide inventories. Japan is also an obvious place to look, the most accessible location being RHDJapan. Their offerings are generally performance-oriented though, so that may be less relevant to a standard car.

In terms of panels, should that be an issue, we are increasingly well served at home: Auto Panel Solutions (APS), which is a guy called Andy Plant who works with the Z Farm, produces a growing quality range of repair and modification steel panels. Useful to be aware of. FRP Automotive on Facebook are also homegrown and make things like spoilers, FRP versions of various panels, replacement interior trim panels, etc.

In terms of knowledge, its difficult in the UK to find somewhere better to ask questions than this forum. There are a lot of very experienced owners on here with in-depth technical, historical, and practical knowledge of these cars. A good number of us have owned Zs for decades and/or have more than one - and have worked on them extensively. So don't be shy to ask away!
