1993 Ford Lightning SVT found

Earlier today i was talking to another friend of mine who purchased a black Lightning the same day as this truck was purchased, they were friends and wanted to see what all the fuss was about regarding the Lightning trucks that had just been delivered to the dealership. Needless to say their wives were not happy and they were told they could no longer hang out together. LOL

Anyway, Dave said that he took the black Lightning out for a track day at Laguna Seca and told me he was amazed at how well the truck stuck to the track and how fast it was down the straights. Reminds me of a 1967 El Camino with a 396 BBC and 4 speed trans that was whooping the pants off mustangs, corvettes and BMW's at Thunder Hill Raceway a few years back.

Just goes to show that with some engineering and proof of concept, unlikely vehicles can be set up to handle really well.

After a week in the shop, the Lightning is now road worthy.

New Hankook directional tires mounted balanced on factory rims, fluids changed, complete tune up, fuel tanks dropped and cleaned and new pumps installed. Suspension bits replaced along with a slew of other items.

Fresh fuel today and a energetic gallop down the road, she runs like a top and pulls really hard.

Air con works beautifully as it was about 35 C today.

Called the detail shop for cut and polish but they are busy for a few weeks. Also scheduled a body shop visit as the bonnet will get a new coat of paint.

Will remove the truck bed tonneau cover fixings as the cover is shredded anyway, lucky it is a clamp on and not drilled.

Few pics at the petrol station.

Ok, so like most of the cars that sit in the Cali sun, not only are they sunbaked but an invitation goes out to Mickey and Minnie for hotel accommodations.....

Spent several hours with degreaser and a strong brush to rid of years of dirt and grime etc.

Happy with the results...

You are just showing off now.;)

Why is the 'slam panel' (radiator support) grey? My first thought is that it's been replaced but I doubt it on that truck (and it has 'stickers' on it suggesting it's original).

Great eye Rob, yes i thought it was a little strange as well so I removed the front grill and had a look...all the metal looked untouched and in factory condition. Pulled some pics off the internet for 93 Lightnings and found that some panels were body color and some were like mine in grey paint. Don't know why that is but maybe a check with the National Lightning Club Owners FB page will answer the question.
