Hang in there Frankster - this is great work / research etc. Having had the slop of late on my steering (due to the splined joint not being tight enough etc) I can tell you slop in steering definitely ruins the fun.

So as a half update........

A)

They can make and press new bushings to suit along with bearings etc, so a 'rebuild' is totally possible, price to be confirmed, looks like circa £150

B)

Replacement rack bars - they're looking into it and seeing what can be done still, the stock pinion angle seems to be the largest roadblock at the minute, along with the output spline size

I'll know more next week, along with a firmer idea of costs. if Option 'B' is a goer, you can have a 'quick' rack in standard housing, where a new lower UJ and bar bolts to the steering rod bushing. That might be around £400.

So its positive.

Well done Franky, I’m sure there will be many worn racks that would benefit from this service. Will you be sending yours there or is it beyond repair?

I’ve got a decent one(thanks mr t), however even that had worn bushings, so I’ve paid for that one to be stripped and assessed(I did rebuild it so everything that could be done was in factory spec). Bronze bushings were worn though, the way the racks designed, it loads a particular part of them.
