    L28 to 3.0 and above

I think you might be underestimating the effect of his differential ratio. In my experience a diff ratio change is the single best performance adder on these cars.

    Vin number location

I would expect this to be something that will cause a problem at the DVLA. Unless they have precedent of this type of vehicle having a chassis number that starts with A and finishes with a Z, I can't see how they can approve it for registration.

    Vin number location

Original (Nissan Shatai) factory chassis numbers were engraved - not stamped - using a large machine which mounted to the bulkhead in a set position each for LHD and RHD variants. The only letters/numbers/symbols stamped directly into the strut tower sheetmetal I have ever seen on a Z were...

    Window regulators

I tend to avoid getting too involved with late model S30-series cars as they became incrementally more and more complex and difficult to keep track of. Here Be Dragons, indeed. What I will say is that it can confuse matters when people stick to moveable feast terms like '260Z' and '280Z' when...

    Strut Cartridge Guidance

I have 56210-E8126 ASSY-SHOCK ABSORBER REAR - EUROPE HS30, 2-seater in the C-0010R 'R-DRIVE' factory parts list. 'E81' suffix usually indicates late production for the HS30 application. It's the 'original' type oil-filled insert type which uses the strut tube itself as an integral part of the...

    Optronic ignition

Lumenition 'Optronic': https://autocar-electrical.co.uk/lumenition Their FK637 fitting kit is for the Hitachi 6cyl distributors used on 'our' cars. I've used them for many years. Pretty much fit and forget. Good product. If it's any guide, Kameari Engine Works have sold them for many years. I...

What did you do to your Z this week?

    I think I'd prefer that!

What did you do to your Z this week?

Previous owner seems to have added an extra hatch strut. Seen this before when the original gas strut got a little bit discharged over time.

    1973 240z blue

@AD240Z I've just recommended your car to a friend. Hopefully he will give you a call to arrange viewing. Good luck!

240Z Stage Rally Car at Auction

Sclater/Holmes retirement on the '74 Welsh. "It's making a funny noise...."

240Z Stage Rally Car at Auction

Yes, and they were riveted/bolted on fibreglass pieces as homologated for Group 4 use in the 3023 FIA fiche. Period correct and part of the factory program or parts and data intended for motor sports use. The distinction being the difference with modifying the original metalwork (with steel...

240Z Stage Rally Car at Auction

Yes, Chris Sclater testing the car he would drive on the 1974 Welsh Rally, navigated by Martin Holmes. The Japanese 'carnet' number plate for this car (an 'RLS30' prefixed LHD 260Z) was hung on the back of the 1975 Le Mans 24hrs car of Andre Haller (an 'HS30' prefixed RHD Fairlady 240Z), giving...

240Z Stage Rally Car at Auction

The flared arches on this particular car are not 'period correct' for a 240Z rally car and are a strange mismatch with the stickers and livery which evoke the 1971 East African Safari Rally winning car of Edgar Herrmann and Hans Schuller, which never had them. Not sure on the eligibility...

240Z Stage Rally Car at Auction

It'll be a reference to the spec of the cars that run in the East African Safari Classic rally in recent years, which are not really anything like the cars that ran in period.

    Safari gold

The name 'Safari Gold' was only a marketing name. If the bodyshop are expecting it to look like an actual Gold hue then they have possibly missed the point. In fact the colour is better described as an 'Ochre' hue.

    Inner wing details

Here's the same area on one of my cars. Sorry for low quality but hopefully they show enough detail. All original factory metal and factory welded joints, a combination of spot-welds and MIG. No repairs or changes since production in April 1970:

    Fairlady/280Z/260Z 2/2 at auction

No. All Japanese domestic market cars had metric speedos. The car has many, many modifications both big and small. The 'Datsun 260Z' dash emblem is an example of small (it would have been 'Fairlady Z' when it left the factory) and the engine swap is an example of the big. No idea why they are...

    Fairlady/280Z/260Z 2/2 at auction

Well, in 1975 alone Nissan made and sold over 3,800 of them in Japan. How many are still left I couldn't tell you. The car in question is in Ireland, so I would guess one of a small handful over there at the most.

    Fairlady/280Z/260Z 2/2 at auction

"Built in 1978". Nope. Chassis number is 'GS30-032937' and it is an 'A-GS30' model 'Fairlady Z-L 2/2' which left the factory with the 'NAPS' spec injected L20 six. It was manufactured in 1975.

Carburetors; Webber 40s Again. Just to have one twin webber?

In engineering terms, the 'ultimate' carburettor setup is for each cylinder to have its own individual venturi and fuel metering, which is exactly what the classic Weber/Mikuni-Solex/Dell'Orto triple side-draught conversion gives you. If ease of use/fit-and-forget is the goal, maybe a factory...
