Well, been keeping things quite quiet until I knew its arrival date, but my new 1jz engined 240z will be arriving from australia in 2 weeks! It had a 'zoom' magazine article(s) written about it in oz, if you want a (long..) read have a look here

http://www.blkmgk.com/

Click the pictures, and the '1JZ Toyota motor in a Z!'

Now is the pain of getting it registered, anyone got any tips?

cheers all

Hi

That is one sweet motor. Registration should be easy. I believe under the current legislation, if your car is > 30yrs old, you dont have to pay VAT / Import duty at the docks. That can be a substantial saving. A few friends have bought old datsuns from Europe/US and have found little or no problems in getting them through !

I can give you their contacts if you need. Mail me

Yeah - its 5% if it can get through as a 'historic vehicle' but you have to apply for this. But I heard from a different thread that actually registering it for use in the UK, and getting a non-Q plate could be a pain??

2jz / 350 brake ? Tuned Supra engine ?

Phil, you have just leapfrogged the rest of us trying to squeeze a bit here and there from trusty Z engines - bastard, I hope you'll be there at Billing to let me shiff around !
I'm sure it won't be a problem getting the papers, the UK is still good for that at least !

Was it via ebay or do you have trusted friends over there ?

yep - will be at billing for definite!

It has a 1jz-gte engine from a soarer, basically a 2.5 litre version of the 3 litre 2jz engine, it has less stroke should be a bit more revvy. It has been tuned a little more after the article and got a new LSD too, which will be some help! It's now putting 200kw down at the wheels at 11psi, not sure what that is in HP, and it can run boost up to 14psi comfortably.

Hope I don't upset too many people with this sacrilege!

now for getting insurance, got one quote for around 700, anyone got any suggestions of a broker?

cheers all!
