1973 Datsun 240Z Race Car Project

Purchased this shell in 2014 with the intension of building a V-8 track car and wouldn't you know it, time flew by me so fast I realized I will probably never finish the car.

The shell is just spectacular with zero rust or accident damage. The complete shell has been
stitch welded and a partial cage was installed by Rick at Rebello Racing in California. Previous owner completed the full cage and did a fantastic job in doing so.

Over the years I have collected parts for the car like a hood, hatch, access doors, doors, front and rear spoilers, "C" production front and rear flairs similar to Z Tricks. I also collected a set of coil overs including Eibach springs and Tokico shocks as well as T3 camber plates and adjustable tension control rods. The ATL fuel cells has been installed as well.

The Ford V-8 is now out of the picture so that won't happen.

I have a L28 sitting in the shop with a Datsun Competition 5 speed and R200 rear end that I may install in the car.

As I get closer to the completion of the work i will be doing, the car will be for sale but I wanted to start a thread on it now.

A few pictures so you can see what I am up against.

This is a car with the same flairs that my car has and gives an idea of what the finished car would look like.

Can I ask, which 'Datsun Competition' 5-speed is it? F5C71-B Direct-Drive 5-speed, or (N3130/N3030) FS5C71-B Overdrive 5-speed?

That safety/roll cage is immense. Huge weight penalty.
Keep the updates coming Mike, we need a stronger exchange rate.

Let me pull it out next week from under the work bench and look at the numbers......I know that it came out of a 2000 Datsun Roadster race car and been converted to fit behind a L series engine with bell housing change and shorten drive shaft, close ratio.

Ah. If it came out of a Roadster and had the bellhousing change, then it will be an FS5C71-A.

Standard equipment on most early cars except the North American market models.

Starting to look like something now......

Ground Control camber plates added as well as coil over suspension
Steering rack added and a quick disconnect steering wheel as well
Compomotive wheels off a vintage racer
Still need to add gauges to dash, a R200 mustache bar, and mix up some 918 Orange

More pics in a few weeks
