Just had a quote for a small repair Ie a scratch on my wing, wheel barrow fell on it wen I was putting it away,
nearly £800 they want to charge me £90 just to take the indicator off then put it back again,5 mins work at most
wot is it with these people I’m not some old Dorris that just came in off the street, won’t use them again that’s for sure

What would they charge if you took everything off at their place - and just got them to paint it - and then you put everything back on. If their work is good, it’d be a shame to have to find somewhere else …

Agree though - a lot of places like charging a lot for minor stuff …

Major piss-take. We had a scrape on our last family car (2018 Hyundai Santa Fe SUV in metallic blue-grey) that needed fixing before trading it in a month ago. Multiple scratches and minor dent to the nearside rear passenger door, and a rear bumper scratch (wife's doing!). Earlier this year, we got it dealt with - in the bodyshop one morning, collected afternoon the following day, £400 all in. Perfect job. I doubt what you are wanting done is anywhere near that in scale. I know you are down South and I'm up here in Cheshire, but still! (and we pay a local premium due to it being a rich persons' ghetto around here).

Picked up a scratch on my Citroen DS front wing, which is a large wing. They repaired the scratch and lacquered the whole panel. Invisible repair £350 plus vat.

Would pass you the details but they retired earlier this year, two brothers, doing this since they were 16. Shame as there work was top notch. Specialised in crash repair and classic restorations.

Got to find another outfit like them, they were so reasonable too and down to earth people. Restored pretty much everything during their time, nothing phased them.

I expect to pay between £280 and might got to £350 but I’ll be going down there in person to get them to explain the £90 charge of less than five mins to take off and put back on the wing indicator and even more to take a couple of bolts out to drop the front bumper

Yes. Ask them to itemise the job - paint and sundries and then all the labour time for the removal of all the other items …

They have done that hence the comment they want to charge £90 to take off and put back on the wing indicator,£168 for paint other stuff which Is Stupid prices,im not a painter but I’d expect to pay £180 - £350 tops for a good job to be done

It is taking the pi$$ for your car. They might just charge a flat rate for that though - with some moderns you need to remove the wheel arch liner and remove lights from inside the wing so it can take some time. Some places only apply logic to pricing when it's in their favour...

Yeah but it’s not in their favour but I will be popping down there to give them a chance to justify their quote

I've had this with bodyshops.... "How much is your car worth?" they ask. At which point I leave because if you want a good job it shouldn't matter.

It's an extension of "Is this on insurance?"

It’s never been put up for sale Dell ,bottom line they are taking the pee, they haven’t a clue wot it’s worth all they do are Toyotas through insurance and the odd car I’ve given them lately to do the odd scratch like the lotus cortina and my Z4 M coupe plus they did the Z a couple years ago when I picked up a few scratches at Le Mans classic ,we fixed the exhaust under the tunnel on our way back ,they gave us a carriage to ourselves which was cool plus the windscreen suffered so a few battle scars only minimal but you have to stay on top of them which is wot I’m trying to do,got another garage lined up which is where the original painter moved to so I’ll pop down there
