Brake servo options - rebuild or replace

The brake servo on our 1974 Fairlady Z has failed. When the pedal is depressed there is a sudden inrush of air causing an engine idle correction and poor pedal assistance and feel.

I have seen some threads where people have rebuilt them in a home setting with new diaphragm and parts. Has anyone got any practical experience of this. e.g. did it ultimately work out? Are there any new retrofit options available? I guess I'm looking for success stories :)

I have done this with one of the rebuild kits from the states. The rebuild itself is easy. The hardest part was getting the servo open. There are a number of write ups which are useful. You'll need to make a tool to open the servo up and definitely a vice to hold it in whilst doing it.

Some useful info in this thread to help you.
