Seat upholstery kits

The car I'm looking at buying is in dire need of an interior refresh, so I'm considering having one of these upholstery kits from the Z Store shipped over with it: https://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/CTGY/classic08f01

Firstly, has anyone used them and are they any good?

Secondly, I really fancy a tan interior but they don't seem to do tan for 280s? Has anyone seen anywhere that does? Or maybe Z Store/MSA used to but has sold out?

Ok thanks guys. From what I'm reading, the 280z didn't have an official tan interior option, but 'brown': https://zcarguide.com/datsun-280z-stock-paint-interior-colors-us-canada/

So I'm guessing this would be that colour right?: https://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/classic08f01/40-2647

Do you think it'd be hard trying to find matching door cards and vinyl for the transmission tunnel, etc?

MSA only seem to do the 280 door cards in black: https://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/classic08h02a01/40-2097

*EDIT* found them on Z Car Source: https://zcarsource.com/interior-door-panel-rebuild-kit-260z-280z-74-78-coupe-dark-brown-new/

Do you think that's just the floppy vinyl for you to upholster onto existing cards, or is it already mounted on cards? (obviously no hardware included I realise).

Although I suppose if the car already has black plastics, e.g. the parts around the rear hatch, would it look weird with brown vinyl everywhere else?

Have you thought about using a vinyl dye on the panels? Used it to good affect on my car and I know couple of other guys on the forum have done the same.

You mean on the plastic panels around the hatch interior? Never thought of that, no! Is it really a dye, not more of a paint?

Also would shipping be that bad for stuff like this, or should I include it in the car when shipped over?

Be careful with putting valuable items in your car when shipping from the USA, often the they get pinched along the way. Best to use shipping companies that specialise in bulky goods. I have heard these guys are good but haven't used them myself, there are quite a few doing this now:

Just a thought. If you are going down the route of completely changing the look of you interior. What about getting a few quotes from a few interior trimmers and get it done properly? Expensive it will probably be, but more satisfying that buying expensive kits you don’t know the quality of and not getting the look you want at the end of the process.

You make a good point to be honest. Could work out not too far off the same. It will need the headlining doing too which would be tricky for me I think.

For carpets the place to go is up in Wolverhampton,Took the lotus cortina up there and they matched the carpet and the roof lining,They also have carpet that matched the late 260 z which is also in the 280z and they also do the whipped edging as most I’ve seen is wot I think the leather edging which to me doesn’t look right I’m just looking for the tunnel carpet so I can take mine up there and get a complete set done then they will have a pattern for anyone else that is looking for 260/280 carpet, any offers on that as it’ll do a few people a favour as I’m not prepared to leave my car there,I’m looking for the seat material myself and might have a bash if I find some as I’m an upholsterer by trade so shouldn’t be a problem

I’ve used STS Imports a few times, including the shipping of a gearbox from the US and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them.

Just finished updating my seats with Zsource kit. There’s a few YouTube videos that are useful to watch
I also have refurbed my plastic panels with spray dye
For carpets go to Coverdale, they work off original templates and quality is good.

Ooh a Lotus Cortina?! Pics please :)

OK interesting. I'm thinking I'll have a go at doing the tunnel & strut tower vinyls myself if I can source the diamond pattern vinyl.

Mike suggested getting carpet sets from a guy called Romas Tamulevicius in Lithuania who does incredible ones at a good price. Think he owns this company: https://www.facebook.com/dcwclassic/

@Huw Just spoke to a couple of auto trimmers in Manchester and they said if you're going for the OEM look and there are kits for seats, just buy them with the car from the states as they should fit pretty well first time and be much cheaper in the long run. Otherwise its a how long is a piece of string kind of thing, but definitely starting with a fairly long piece of string!

wow, they look amazing, good work. Did you buy the foams as well as the covers?

What made you go for the Zsource ($326) covers over MSA's ($279) or Interior Innovations' ($300)?

The Interior Innovations ones don't look as much like the originals though, now I compare them. More of a matte fake leather look isn't it?
