Ignition timing

Hi folks.

This has probably been covered before but I can't seem to find anything on searches. I'm looking for some advice on ignition timing please.

I'm currently running a 280zx dizzy with the E12-80 module and not sure what the timing should be on idle. Something in the back of my mind says that it is 34 degrees but is that on standard idle or at 3000 rpm?

I have static timed points based dizzies but not an electronic one. Any advice would be welcome. Cheers.

Rob beat me to it! (Edit: so did JB!!)

Take the revs to over 3k and set the “all in” timing there say 32°-35° (I would personally start with the lower figure to play safe).

Then let the revs drop to idle where you will find it naturally “should” sit between 15°-17°.

This would put your static timing at around 10°.

I’m sure you know this already, but make sure vac advance is disconnected and blocked at the carb end while you are doing this, then plug it back in before messing with any idle screws to fine tune your idling.

Here’s a table that may help identify how much advance you have and where your dizzy maxes out ...
