Impulse buy on Ebay, but what is it?

Spotted an ECU for a 280zx on Ebay earlier with the auction finishing in a hour, so decided to have a punt. Asking £14 opening bid, won it for £17.20 inc delivery.

Also in the job lot was another item part number 25065P8000 1413 (possibly 25085P8000 1413), but I can't seem to identify it. The chap had it down as some sort of 'fuel box'? May be off a different model altogether.

Any ideas?

Shame the ECU part number doesn't match mine! :EXTRAeek: So, the part number is indeed for a 280zx, Series 1 1979-81 car... just not exactly mine!

Dug this up online:

My current ECU is:
22611-P6600 / A11-000 426 / L28MT
ENGINE CONTROL MODULE. Applied Model: L28E.MT.F5; (10.78 - 09.79)

The one I bought is:
22611-P8600 / A11-000 428 / L28MT
ENGINE CONTROL MODULE. Applied Model: L28E.MT.F5; (10.79 - 08.81)

So the one I have just bought is for a slightly later build date than mine. I wonder what the difference would be? Tempted to plug it in and see, but would probably fry something... EXTRA:D

Oh well, was worth a punt!

Hi Ped

Here’s a list of comparable ECUs. Late model 82 to 83 are not comparable with early 79 to 81 cars.

All part numbers start with 22611-

P6600 10/78 - 09/79 MT
P6610 10/78 - 09/79 AT
P8600 10/79 - 08/91 MT
P8610 10/79 - 08/91 AT
These early versions are interchangeable and you can run MT on AT units.

P8601 09/81 onwards MT
P8611 09/81 onwards AT
These cannot be interchanged with early versions.

The other box is the warning control unit (lights battery indicators etc) on the dash. Unit sits behind the glove box.

Cheers

Great bit of info, cheers for that Huw. Good to know I have a spare ECU (assuming it works), mines an MT too.

I did find a place (via the ZCar forum) which refurbishes them in the UK should the need arise (may be useful for someone):
https://www.atpelectronics.co.uk/p/nissan-280-petrol-ecu-l-jetronic.html

Good to know what the other item is, I have now found it in the workshop manual "Warning Display Control Unit". Looks like it sits behind the dash in the glove box area. Must be off the same car as the ECU.
