Pretty good price for a sorted rhd 240z but I think you'd have to actually want to rally it. Probably too much work to put it back to stock?

Seems a decent guide price, but it is only a guide. Could go much higher if a couple of bidders want it.

Might even have a cheeky bid myself. Alan do you have any history on thins car? I know who rallied it and he is mainly a Porsche man.

Just to let you guys know that I bought it, and just spotted this thread. Spoke to Rikki and it’s had a lot done to it and has a few small battle scars from 3 years of competing but it’s had work since and laid up in a warm garage for the last 2 years. Lots of spares as well.
I’m not a racer, but do track days for leisure (normally in a 1962 TR4). This will be mainly left as is but setup more for tarmac and hopefully do more track days and maybe try to do LeJog or RBRR and have a bit of fun. It’ll get a little tidy up over the next year or so but hopefully some enjoyment. Who knows, in 10 years when I’m retired I might do a few more events.
Cheers.

Oh good, congratulations - please keep us updated on the car. Have you seen my Thread today re rallying Zs - your car is featured?

I was interested in this car and registered to bid but when it got to £28k with a couple of days to go I gave it a lot of thought. The reality is that I have a single garage, 2 Zs and I didn't want to pay for transporting it, storing it and insuring it.

I think it should be a good buy. Did you get any pics of the underneath - I also noticed the sump-guard was off but I assume that's included?

IMO I don't think it's a Le-Jog/ Reliability Run type car. It will be far too raw and uncomfortable but that's up to you.

Please keep us posted.

Hi Rob,

life gets complicated at times :D

I’ve fortunately gained a little space at home that needed filling, and the 260Z I bought earlier this year hadn’t scratched the 240Z itch. You could be right with RBRR etc. as I’ve had a works spec. TR7V8 rally car before and was fairly useless on a public road and needed up selling it, but we’ll see if it can be slightly softened.

It’ll probably be 2 or 3 months before I get chance to do some updates on it as currently getting the TR4 stripped for body work.

Will let you know what I get, when it’s collected.

Thanks.

Update on this 240Z.

Still haven’t actually seen it myself due to lockdown and storage at home, but should be with me in the next couple of weeks. It’s been well looked after by a company I know well who collected it for me (and knew the previous owner as they prepared a rally Triumph TR4 for him).

They gave it a good check over and has passed an MOT without any advisories, although they’ve advised that I could done with replacing the engine mounts and steering outer tie rods (all ordered for next week).

They’ve confirmed that the car is in great condition and everyone who’s seen it has loved it - great!

The shell has had some welding underneath but all done properly and neat as you’d hope.

As I’m tall (6’4”) they’ve already moved the fire extinguisher and battery from behind the drivers seat for me so I can play with seats and seating position when I get it home.

They say it sounds lovely and the gear change is brilliant, short and precise, and the engine has loads of power and torque. Can start from 2nd and change to 5th - so I may need to look at axle ratios, or it’s just a very good torquey engine.

The steering is good, but still on forest tyres so will need to see once I put road/track tyres on if it needs any assistance. Hopefully it’ll be okay without needing to add EPS.

The previous owners co-driver is a Datsun fan and has sent me some pics of the car which I’ll share.

Cheers.

congratulations- I hope you have fun with it, and I wouldn’t worry about a few (more) battlescars. I’d have loved to have been in a position to buy this .

you ll have to keep us updated.

Will do, cheers.
I’m not currently going to rally it, but will be used for track days and potential hill climbs etc. Basically tarmac fun use. May need to make some changes but will see (I used to have a works-spec Triumph TR7V8 which proved too harsh so sold it).
