What did you do to your Z this week?

It's an l28 with a moderate cam and low 10s compression, still on SUs and yeah, the manifold/exhaust was stock before. I suspect the dyno might be a little generous, but it's the same dyno and operator both times, so I think the increase figure is trustworthy.

I'm always doing things but don't often post on this Thread so here goes. I've finished the heater change but not my 'drawn-out' wiring and dash upgrade jobs. I just keep having ideas and extending the work. As explained before one of the reasons jobs take so long is that I have a tiny garage. For example try doing this from the driver's side. Anyway this is to make all existing and new relays/fuses accessible by a navigator and yet hidden from view. There is an aluminium plate behind the glovebox which these components are screwed into. The wiring should be fun. I have spares for all these which will be carried in the car.20200823_135922.jpg 20200823_135806.jpg

I do have a brand new glovebox as a back-up. Anything I'm changing is reversible but would need a replacement 'loom' which most cars would benefit from anyway.

Nice work Rob! [emoji106]

You’re so right about the loom Rob! Putting the car back together, I was holding the wiring for the lighting circuit in my hand (green wires) and I was quite surprised how warm they got!!!! I’m definitely LED-ing all lights except for dashboard lights (I find LED green too green if that makes sense)!

Still room for a packet of Werthers Originals!

Yeh, I need the door pockets from a Hillman Imp!

It was not an easy decision I took ages to decide on the location - I wanted easy access but hidden most of the time. I have lots of space for storage now that I have fitted a modern heater.

Took the Zed for an MOT yesterday, and it passed :hurray: with only minor advisory (oil leak). The car turned 40 officially from April this year, so have been meaning to apply for tax free status. While it was being MOTed I took a walk down to the main Post Office just to see if they would be able to send off the documents to DVLA as per the GOV.uk website...

Needless to say they didn't have a clue. I will try the Wokingham branch if I get time tomorrow. Hoping they will know what they are supposed to do.

The car may not have needed this MOT at all since it had a valid one at the point it turned 40, but for peace of mind (and to preempt the Post Office counter staff having an easy get out) I thought it worth while. I will continue to get it checked once every year or so anyway.

Have only done 280 miles in the last year - hashtag 'poor_effort'. :conf2:

When my car turned 40, the following year, I automatically received a new V5 with Historic class and two weeks later a refund for the previous year’s tax. None of which I applied for.

I still take mine to a garage near Fourways for an “MOT type test” as I like the fact that they measure the braking forces between wheels on the same axle and between the axles among other things.

Bit of a result this week - managed to install a replica windscreen washer bottle from zcardepot, refurb the washer nozzles (kindly supplied by @Minksport ) and install new tubing and non return valve.

Best of all, managed to retrace the wiring and get it plumbed back in.

It seems, being an American import from one of the sunshine states, the need for windscreen washing isn't that relevant?!?!? :EXTRAconfused:

Yes, I agree. Better safe than in a ditch.

Had a busy few weeks on mine (and expensive as well), so here goes in the last 3 weeks or so

1. Gearbox upgrade to S14, including shortening of prop and machining of bell housing.
2. New piper exhaust front to back
3. New heat shields on carbs
4. New fuel line from back to front and under bonnet rubber hoses too
5. New suspension top mounts on front
6. New vacuum hoses
7. New oil breather hose to catch tank
8. New thatcham alarm
9. Full tune on rolling road...including new chokes emulsion tubes and jets. (Severely needed as I was getting about 8Mpg!)
10.New wing mirrors.
11. New Mot

Now she’s off into storage whilst my garage is demolished and rebuilt with a new second storey bedroom to keep the other half happy as well.

Bring on 2021, when maybe I can actually enjoy driving her a bit!

It still amazes me how many people run these cars on triples that aren't tuned to the engine.
