Suspension set up

When you buy BC you're just buying from a reseller.

It'd be worth deciding once you know more about what you want to do with your car, use/weight/wheel size-profile/size of ARB's/chassis mods(roll hoops/cages) should all be taken into factor.

Suspension is the thing you feel the most. The other point is, that out of all the proper specialists I went to where it was silly money(ie 6k for dampers alone), all of them said one of the list above was good for the money and the most sensible choice.

Use will be on the road but no doubt spirited now and then! Wheels I’m looking at 9x15 front and 10.5x15 rear with 225/50 tyres. I won’t be putting much in the way of a interior back into the car, the 2.8 BMW engine I think weighs a little more than the L28, and I have been thinking of having a a rear half cage installed

My thoughts exactly, for only road use will I be gaining that much by spending a lot more and not maximising their potential. So if I decide on BC coilovers, the ST roll bar kit, and replace all the bushes what else is worth changing/upgrading in your opinion?

You'll get different answers from different people, and I can only comment based on what I've done as I've not experienced the other options however that would be my vote. I have no doubt intrax will be better but I don't think for most of us you will really gain enough for the amount you spend. Most of us still have a budget after all. If you've done all of those bits then you've been through the whole setup (not to much to it really). I'd powder coat or POR15 all of the stock suspension items for longevity and get a good alignment done. Camber wise I'm running 1.3 degrees negative all round which you can do off the BC topmounts before fitting and am very happy (albeit my adjustment was done through my control arms).

I'd then be putting the money you saved into other important areas like brakes and drivetrain imo. Lot's that you can do, just look at what your goals for the project are.

Yeah people can only advise based on what they’ve got experience with. I’m a long way off fitting suspension yet, my main thing was if I needed weld in camber plates as I would of had those cut and fitted at the early stage.

Would it have been cheaper for you to get intrax with VA motorsport top mounts then buy your BC's(what did the welding cost?) and all the adjustable bits you've got under the car?EXTRA:D

BC's welded, powder coated and all my T3 items set me back £2230. Intrax Upside down coilovers plus VAT and shipped to my door would have been around EUR 3500 + top mounts and any extras I got tempted by, which I really was. Plus I'd need to refurb all of the stock control arms and new rubber. No regrets here. If I won the lottery on the other hand....

I have just received a set of BC's for my new silver car so that tells you how I feel.

All details and photos are in my project thread if you look it up however these are the headline items. I've got bushes and other bits and pieces as well. (Looks like they've also got more products since I purchased, tempting....)

I'm no great mathematician however please see below their price list from my inquiries. I cannot see how you'd get RSA Upsidedown coilovers like yours with top mounts, delivered, VAT, customs, donor struts etc included for £2,600. I'm all ears though?

So those bits plus bushes, powered coating and BC’s come in at around the same as just the intrax coilovers?

I used VA-motorsport.

2300+21%=2783euro. into gbp £2,491.26

2600+21%=3146euro. into gbp £2816

'Shocking' maths EXTRA:D

Take your $1300ish worth of techno stuff.

add say £150 shipping

add vat/customs(possibly), thats £1400.

Add BC stuff, plus getting it chopped up/welded correctly £1000ish?

Its close really. Many ways to skin a cat.

Well no :conf2:

That setup personally cost me about £2230, however depending on your situation/contacts you'll need to add Shipping + VAT on all of the T3 items (which I didn't). Also you'll need to factor in refurb/replacement costs on the rest of your oem suspension if you choose Intrax so it is definitely a more expensive route to go which ever way you look at it (you will have a better product though).

I'll take your word for it, just sharing what I've found :p I'm happy and so are you so what does it matter.

Even better I can enjoy my budget coilovers now rather than just looking at them on a shelf :boxing:

I think I got confused with reading something earlier in the thread!

you sodEXTRA:D

They're not on a shelf anymore, currently sat on a bench!

There's no right way and no wrong way, what I was failing to say, is that for any given budget, there's a few ways of doing it.

I also have selective memory about what i've spent on stuff.

Well said, I'm looking forward to seeing what all of the fuss is about when you get it done and on the road!

Lol I wish I could say the same however it's all detailed in an excel spreadsheet :leaving:
