Yup, you push the pin all the way through the rivet. I often have to use a small screwdriver or drift and hit the end of the screwdriver with my fist (read mallet) to get them all the way through.

My 240Z has got CV half shafts and I’m removing them from the car at the moment. I’ve managed to get one side out of the diff fine by using two large screwdrivers and levering it out , see picture:

So I realised I had one of the old gland nuts I took off lying around at home (I think it's factory but I'm not sure, hence why I'm just getting new ones) and I've measured it to be a 52mm thread.
