Folks
I have an integrated sunroof - all metal sunroof that fits inside the roof, not one of the glass flippy-uppy jobs

I am trying to find some T-shaped weatherstripping/waterproofing to put around the outside of the sunroof too give some additional protection

Anyone know where I can get something like this ? Seems there are loads of inclined T-shape weatherstripping but not straight T-shaped weatherstripping

if no joy with the above, there's a huge variety of seals and the like for showers and double glazing, so a search on ebay for them might find something.

These guys do a vast variety of rubber seals. I’ve used them extensively for all sorts of weird seals for prewar vintage cars. They should have something that will do what you need.

Front Sills protection

Folks - front sills are a becoming a bit of mess - numerous failed attempts to get a jack under the car (not all by me) have them a little beaten up
Couple of questions
- Anything specialised you do to treat this ? My plan is to tape the effected area off, rub down to the metal, treat with anti-rust and respray/paint
- Longer term protection : is there a way of longer term protecting this particular area as it seems to be an area of particular use/damage

As always - any suggestions greatly appreciated

I think you have a bit of filler in the bottom of that wing and in the end of the sill panel so it might not be as straight forward as it looks.

Hi Jason
Was the rad plug and play in the end? Considering getting one but all the others advertised this way say it needs modification to fit a 280Z
Yeah very much plug and play
Needed a little bit of careful nozzle alignment but the soft aluminium made it very easy to do

Got one and fitted it. Have yet to test so not put everything back in yet. Did you manage to fit the shroud back in?
Yellowz
I had plenty of room for the shroud but decided not to put it back in as I wanted to see the shiny new rad ;)
No issues with cooling or heat sink without it but if I do get any issues I will just put it back on

Fuel Pump Leak

Wanted to check with you folks before going any further
Fuel pump has started to leak pretty aggressively 😫
Fuel doesn't seem to be leaking around the pipe - it seems to be leaking out around where the electrical connections are ?
IMG-20221009-WA0003.jpeg
The rubber around the holder is all eaten through - in this terrible picture

Does anyone know if this looks like an original pump ? And should I get a replacement like this ?

Please let me know - she is going to the garage on Thursday to be checked out

Hi Jason.

That looks original but difficult to tell with cars this old what’s been changed over the years. One piece of advice however, it’s worth putting a pre filter before the pump.

I know it’s a 280ZX pump replacement but worth having a looks at:

Huw - thanks so much
I assume this 280zx pump & pre-filter will work in my car ?

I am not that worried about replacing with a genuine Datsun/280z part - I'd prefer to get something that's appropriate for the flow etc
If there is anything else that will do the job I will grab it

Fuel starved
So.....
After the trip today (actually in the car park trying to leave) the car is taking an absolute age to get fuel
I put a new fuel pump in it on Friday - and a filter before the pump BUT it just a normal fuel filter I had

Now the car won't get fuel at all !
It's filled to the neck, the battery is full (and new) and the starter motor is plenty strong and keeps turning

I thought it might be that heat sink that evaporates the fuel in the fuel rail after the car was really warm but it's more than that

Any thoughts ?
Maybe I should take the pre-filter out and try it ? Or is the filter the wrong type ?

You really need a fuel pressure gauge on the rail, then you'll know if your supply (pump) is the problem or the maybe injectors & heat sink etc, or thermotime etc.

Is that fuel problem catching. Noticed something slightly on the to Coffee and Chrome but on the way back the car (280Z) was struggling under load. So when accelerating and especially when going up hill was wondering if it was going to make to the top.
Not sure where to start looking yet?
Talking to Jon vacuum might be the place to start.

Will start another thread if it remains an issue, don't want to hijack yours Jason!

Hi Jason. Sorry to hear you are having difficulties, you car looked fab today. You definitely need a proper inline pre filter if using a close tolerance rotor vane pump. A normal filter for an carb set up won’t cut it really. Any shite in the tank and it will kill the pump very very quickly. Are you getting power to the pump, does it whirr when you first turn the key before you fire it up?

A pressure gauge is a good idea to check what pressure your getting If the pump is running. The thermotime is just a cold start enrichment device and won’t affect fuel supply, it controls the cold start injector only.

Sorry to say, best thing to do is run through the check list in the EFI bible. I’ll send you a copy of you haven’t got one.
