Does anyone have any recent experience with FRP Automotive?

I’ve been considering a shell and other parts from them for a project I have in mind.
Some research seems to give a variety of opinions, but nothing recent?

Many thanks,

James

I bought a front spoiler from them about a year ago. It was around Christmas and shipment was slightly delayed, but nothing major (maybe + 1 week, but I wasn't in a rush).

Fitment was a bit of a challenge. It wanted to bow out, leaving it overhanging one side by at least an inch. I corralled it into position but I was nervous it may crack under the forces being applied to it.

It's been on the car for probably 6 months now and it hadn't cracked until I accidentally recently caught it on something (totally my fault).

Overall the quality and service were fine but I would exercise caution around the fitment. It may require some wrestling to get it to fit how you want it!

took about 2months longer to arrive than they first said, they did discount because of the wait. Not fitted yet but looks OK in the box!

I wasn't overly impressed with the quality of my airdam, but I am very fussy and it was certainly useable and could have been made to look ok.

Thanks guys. This makes the thought of buying an entire body and panel set from them a bit worrying if you’ve had these issues just with spoilers etc!!

I bet you’ll be fine
Well hopefully!
My intention is to build a lovely original Z for myself, but as a company we have an interesting project for which a FRP body etc would be perfect!

I have spoken to them and they’ve been fantastic, but having seen many mixed reviews I thought it best to ask of people’s recent experiences.

I gather they had troubles in the past, but as a fellow small company owner I know these things happen.

what would you do with it? track car or get it registered etc?

It would be registered, but I’m in Guernsey so that’s easy.
The plan is to build a semi-spaceframe hybrid, based off another vehicle. Keeping the lightweight sporty theme, but with classic Z lines.
I’d rather not cut up an original though, those need to be saved! I’d like to explore giving a cost effective option for those who love the look, but aren’t necessarily committed enough to build a classic.
Verging on a kit car type build. Could be a great option for those building a racer too, as with classic Ferrari’s etc.

I think thats the best way to do it. I'd look at effectively dropping it on a devleloped chassis, something like a caterham?

Lister Bell also do a nice Stratos rep in a similar build.

Sorry all to dredge this old thread up but thought it might be more useful than starting a new one.

Has anyone got any recent news on FRP and where they are, specifically more with the owner, Craig? A number of people, myself included, have orders placed and paid with them but appears they have gone to ground with health issues. Obviously I hope the health issues are not too significant but I have heard that they are could result in a lot of people being left out of pocket.

I don't have any news or information to help but I saw the discussion on Facebook and it feels like another chapter on a long-running story with respect to FRP. There seems to have been one issue after another for as long as I can remember, and a long list of complaints about poor/no communication, etc. It's a shame because they are a homegrown business with a good portfolio of parts - but personally I just wouldn't trust them with my money. If they can't service their orders, they shouldn't be taking any.

I didn't have any problems with them. I got my spoiler just over 2 weeks after I ordered it. I dealt with Claire not Craig and did so through e-mail on FRPCraig@hotmail.co.uk. I don't have Facebook so didn't use it to communicate.

From my understanding, being a small business, they make stuff in batches not single ones to order so you may have to wait until the next batch which may be a few months. Maybe I was lucky in that they had one ready made instead of waiting for them to make the next batch. Agree that they should keep people informed though but they did reply to my e-mails.

In the past, prior to ordering I had dealt with Claire, but when I ordered I dealt with Craig directly through Facebook messenger and he seemed quite genuine. I had heard, prior to ordering, about some peoples experiences with them but decided to order as everyone had eventually received their orders. When I saw the post on one of the Datsun groups on FB last night I wanted to check up on my order as it had been late September since I heard anything from them. Maybe I am reading too much in to this but I have money at stake and it's a few quid so I want to understand what's happening. A quick search on companies house shows that Claire resigned as a director on 4th July 2021, not long after I and a few others placed their orders. I know this happens and often doesn't affect companies as she could have stepped down and continued to work for the company as an employee, however, the complete lack of updates makes me think otherwise. My last communications were with someone called Dylan who I had not dealt with before who gave me the usual, order will be out next week, but I'm 2 months down the line and out of pocket.
