Removing Ethanol from Fuel

Was sent this link by a member of my local classic car club, interesting but a faff for larger quantities of petrol, plus purchase/storage issues.

I'll have to sit down and have a look at this.

But doesn't the ethanol boost octane so you're fuel will be less potent?

He does say at the end you will lose some octane with the ethanol, so to use one of the available products to boost it back up.

Nice video, been doing that for a while with the 1938 Humber we run. It is a faff and there is a risk of loosing your eyebrows as the whole place stinks of fuel. But it stops my carb from falling apart and bits are as rare as for it these days. Plus modern petrol really doesn’t get on with pre war rubber parts.

interesting video thanks for sharing ,

I did some reading about the E10 they are rolling out now , It cost more to produce so will cost more at the pumps and doesn't burn at efficiently so will make your car do less MPG ,even new cars that can adjust the timing to burn it properly, that on top of the ethanol eating away at the old rubber parts in your fuel system, super unleaded has to stay E5 for at least 5 years ( I think I read that somewhere) though .

I can see us classic car folks getting stung with pretty expensive fuel in the coming years sadly ,

If it does worse mpg it properly negates putting the ethanol in in the first place.

Agenda to slowly make ice cars less efficient and accelerate the electric revolution.

OK, just run a test on Esso 99+ fuel in Wiltshire. 300ml of fuel, added 10% or 30ml of water. Shake it and let it settle. Then if its free of ethanol (or nearly free) like my picture, you have 30ml of water only at the bottom. If it had 5% ethanol, then you should have 45ml of ethanol/water mix in the bottom.

I think Shell V-Power is still E5
I think so. If I get some I will test it. Remember it's up to 5% for super grade fuels so others may only have a small fraction. Not all have 5% in them. For E10 premium fuels from September it's between over 5% and up to 10%.
