Guys and gals,

For a long time, it’s bugged me when people new to the scene would ask a questions an eyes would roll behind the keyboards, promptly followed by the immortal words - “just use Google” !!!

I was thinking we need a sticky thread for the frequently asked questions and stated putting one together with the questions I had when I was new to the scene. But before I publish it, I was wondering what your questions are as a newbie or someone who is time poor / not mechanically minded etc? Please tell me below what topics you want to know about.

Some thoughts to point you in the right direction (oh and I know these questions can have “it depends” answers but I’m going for rule of thumb here:

What oil shall I use?
Battery size
Ignition timing
Diff / transmission oil
Wheels abs tyres
Typical upgrades and mods
What wheels abs tyres can I fit without rubbing.
Electrics

if there are existing threads that you like on any topic, please share the link below so that we can bring it all together! There is a wealth of info on this site and others so let’s help newbies find what they need easily without having to ask.

All of the Smog restrictions removal techniques
Cold air modification
EFI information wiring diagram/fault finding (I will attach here if it helps)
Different upgrade options for beginners based on 240, 260, 280
Dash repair basics, I found so many variants although after almost 30 different write ups one method seemed to come out ontop. Which I have now tried and taken pics if needed..

Great idea EXTRA:) one that is current with today's Z ownership will be really helpful.
So many similar are from 15 years ago and non of the links work..

There are four questions that come up again and again:

1) Any 240z for sale? / I'm looking for a Zed, a 'driver' car I can work on - where do I start? (Answer: You've probably seriously underestimated how much this is going to cost - budget £20-£25k If you want cheaper try America)

2) How do I go about finding cars in America? (Answer: Talk to SacCyclone or read this thread https://zclub.net/community/index.php?threads/hey-looking-for-my-first-z.23735/page-2#post-274358 )

3) How much is this Zed worth? (Answer: These change on a monthly basis and often there aren't enough sales happening to keep track of the full spectrum of condition)

4) Zed specialists in X region? (Answer: There aren't any in the UK that everyone trusts and you'll need deep pockets (see question 1) )

You could just make a couple of ‘sticky’ threads.

we’ve got a suspension thread, there’s also a ‘suppliers’ thread, both have lots of links and info In?

Thanks all, really appreciate the thoughts so far, keep em coming. (Oh and apologies for the typos, I really should read my own writing before I post) .

Agreed, I just one to bring them all together on one place rather than having to search for it and ask the inevitable question.

One of my biggest fears would be to restore the car in an incorrect fashion. Not as stupid as getting the car resprayed and then deciding you want or need to media blast it.

More like a gentleman's agreement that there is a right order to restoring the car. With pointers on what parts you may not be thinking about.

Such as; you're flushing the brake fluid or upgrading the brake lines and forget about that 'Proportioning Valve Seal Kit' that probably will be alright, but might be something you didn't anticipate?

Some other info that could be useful could be:

Brake upgrades & where to get parts
Carburrettor options
Electronic distributor upgrade options
Lighting upgrades to avoid burning out switches
