What did you do to your Z this week?

@Dale i think the others have said it already! :( This is one of my worst fears with a garage “just” wider than the car! Sorry to see that sir.

So I backed it out of the garage for the second time for tonight’s game, concentrating on the passenger side mirror as I had plenty of room on the drivers side……….well, if I’d remembered to close my door that is !!!! F#%*€$<#%?!!!!

If you want to feel better, in an old house I had a just put in a gravel driveway, I was reversing out, felt some resistance and heard/felt a bit of gravel spin. I thought it was just a bit deep and needed bedding in. so a bit more throttle, then my windscreen popped out.

My door was open, on a gate post, bent all the way back, twisted the mounting A pillar for the door and twisted the front of the roof.

All in a days work!

You and the Essex contingent are Dean's 'rent a crowd'. Well done.

Judging by recent results (incl this) he 's doing very well.

So now I know where I can get the Samuri roof painted?

Don’t feel too bad Dale, my mate did this to his company Merc … note, the door is missing …

He has a steep drive, thought the leccy handbrake was on, got out of the car to get something from his house … next minute it had run down his 50yard drive, crossed the (quiet) road where he lives and was only stopped by a tree on the other side of the road. His 10yo son was in the car at the time!

Merc leccy handbrakes are a PFA, they don’t go on until you pull the keys out of the ignition, I have a strep drive and can count the number of times I’ve nearly done that

I went for a drive, yesterday and today, in the red Z. Yes - it breathes again! Took some faff yesterday to tighten up the hose clamps near the tank to stop the leak I’d had and then bleeding the clutch, but once done, fired her up and off we went!

I’d forgotten how much I love driving that car. It hasn’t been out since Oct 2019, so it was so satisfying to get on the road and blast around the Cheshire A roads (with the obligatory lap through Alderley Edge to get car spotted by the gathered camera wielders!). That L28 pulls like a badass, the S14a box with short shifter is a pleasure, and the combo of the triple Dellortos and Fujitsubo exhaust just sound epic.

Also had a session today swapping the wing mirrors on the Celica over to the correct style from the Datsun 510 ones that were on there, although that exercise was utterly hateful. It’s a two person job really, so doing it solo took hours and much sweat and swearing. Also had to drill new holes in the wing tops as the 510 locating pins were spaced differently (the car must’ve had new wings at some point as they correct pin holes weren’t present). Still, got it done. Deferred the other job I had planned - new quarter emblems to next time. The car was de-badged when painted in Japan; the emblems on it are held on with emblem tape. The new ones will require drilling, so I’ve made positioning templates to aid that exercise.

Hopefully engine and gearbox back in this weekend then start the radiator and plumbing. Then I can get it back on it's wheels and get the front splitter trimmed to the correct height.
Headlight covers to finish making and fit.
Then very close to booking some track time to set it all up again

Sorted my clutch problem. Turned out to be a clutch slave cylinder I fitted in December had failed. The car had done less than 400 miles on it.

The clutch master cylinder had sprung a leak a couple weeks ago before a trip to Goodwood. Swapped that out with a cheap spare from my stash but the clutch was still slipping. With a new slave cylinder in place the clutch is now fine.

This weekend I overhauled an original Nabco master cylinder I had at the back of the garage. It cleaned up nice and the bore was good, a new piston and it works a treat. It also looks much better than the cheap eBay unit I fitted to get me to Goodwood.

Finally fitted my new wheels & tyres after waiting nearly 3 months for them. They are Japan Racing JR19s in Bronze 14x7J ET0 with Dunlop 195 70 14 tyres,.

Would have preferred the 15x8J with a lower profile tyre but they didn't fit with my stock suspension and wheelarches ( they protruded about an inch outside all 4 arches with a zero offset and couldn't get them in a compatible offset). Anyway I'm happy with what I got.:) Still undecided about the centre caps on the rears though (they won't fit on the front).

My old slotmags are now for sale on a different thread.
