Brake upgrades, inc handbrake concerns

Suppose I should probably add some feedback in here too!
Grabbed this kit last year from Gary after sourcing the calipers. Can safely echo comments above, fantastic setup, refurbed calipers coupled with the braided lines and decent pads it really does grind the car to a halt sharpish.

How were you getting on with the prototype bell setup Gary?
Still very much interested!

What discs are those?

The ones in this kit I've been offered seem to only be available in the USA and are from a Honda so the discs need a bit of machine work.

They are a 296mm disc.

Just to update this thread a bit,

I have been running the ally bell's and wilwoods I designed for a while now with no problems , work great and have stopped the issues I had with brake fade , and are lighter and easier to replace the disc as it's an off the shelf unit with no machining needed now,

Rock Auto now sell new 300zx calipers here

https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog...harged,1209664,brake+&+wheel+hub,caliper,1704

So I ordered some up to see what they where like , castings seem good but contrary to the internet they are not the same as the R32 GTR items and don't fit my old adapter brackets,

IMG_20201110_091846_6.jpg

So I'm gonna tweak the design a bit so they work with these calipers on the 260z/280z solution with the Jaguar disc and the 240z with the wilwood/alloy bell and R32 GTR disc. be a lighter alternative to the heavy Toyota Hilux upgrade as you can now buy them new ,

I have a set of brackets coming from the USA for the 300zx caliper on a 260/280z hub. You are more than welcome to try them for the Jag disc fitment.

Cheers Liam , thanks for the offer dude ,

Think I've seen those, they use the Honda S2000 disc's don't they ? which are not far off the Jag disc in size and offset but are a bit thinner

They use some kind of honda disk but its not a model available in the UK. Think it's a honda odyssey or something.

I have actually ordered the full front and rear kit, brackets, discs, rear calipers (mustang ones I believe)

I will have a couple of these kits available for sale soon (in transit). They work on 240,260 and 280z applications and use the Honda Oddysey discs and Z32/R32GTR calipers

Just to let you know the Z32 caliper I brought above is NOT the same as a R32 GTR caliper . they may fit both if they have slotted the mounting holes but I wouldn't recommend that on brake component's,

How much are kits gonna be please ?

just wondering how much they would compare to mine.....

The calipers I was told to use are the z32 twin turbo calipers. I have the alloy ones that I'll refurb and stick on.

yep, 360mm straight is better.

Hi there.
Appreciate this is an older thread, but wondered if I could double check the specs for the brake lines you ordered and installed on your car and understand if there's anything you would change if doing again?
I'm installing the Milkfab/Odyssey package on with the R32 calipers onto my 260z and was directed to this thread by Atomman (thanks to)
Currently in Furore custom line website considering ordering 360mm lines with the following specs;
- Length in mm (to nearest 5mm) 360
- Hose Colour Translucent Red
- Union 1 Thread/Size 10mm Banjo inc 2 x c..
- Union 1 Banjo 10mm Colour Stainless
- Union 1 Bend Required Straight
- Union 2 Thread/Size M10x1.00
- Union 2 Type Female swivel
- Union 2 Bend Required Straight

I am also unsure of what thread to specify for the female swivel joint to the inner wing.
Any help appreciated.

I think you need union 1 to be 20° to bend away from the caliper.
union 2 is fixed female circlip type. no swivel.
Thats what I did anyway.

Do you know if the Jaguar disc an alternative to the Honda Odyssey disc that milkfab specify with their kit ?
I have the Odyssey disc coming, but am looking to squirrel away some spare parts to take with me to Italy, as I doubt I'll be finding a local machine shop that I can have this kind of work done at . It would be good to source something that does not need all the machining work that the Odyssey disc does. Or am I off the mark with my assumptions?

The MilkFab brackets are different to the ones I make so dont think the Jag discs will fit unfortunately , also the 300zx calliper's are different to the R32 GTR callipers , I had to tweak the design of my bracket to work with the new repo 300zx callipers as the mounting holes are in different location on the callipers .

A friend fitted some Milkfab brackets in the US , be good to hear how they bolt up and fit and if any 'adjustments' are needed ...

Okay, that's a pity but thanks for confirming. I'll take pictures of the process and post on here along with comments once they're on and working.
Still a bit confused by all the different elements. I thought the R32 calipers and 300zx calipers were one and the same......gulp.
Here's the ones I've obtained. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/114695044252
Fingers crossed it all goes smoothly.

Just to update this and as I really can't remember if i have put this on here yet ,

I have now tweaked the design of my bracket to use the 300zx ally 4 pots you can get off Rockauto and use the vented skyline disc's , or a Jag vented disc for 260z & 280z's, so you can run them under most 15's, but NOT 14's unfortunately ,

I can still also do the GT-R calliper brackets to ( yes they are different ) , with a choice of 2 widths of vented disc , if you prefer those , (think I've got one set of titanium brackets left after that they will be alloy)

there's a great selection of pad's for the Skyline callipers which will fit the 300zx ones to , so give you a great choice , a lot better than the old cast iron Toyota type and a bit lighter to

I still need to get a kit from you! How's the pedal feel with the stock master cylinder, quite a lot travel I guess?

I have Gary's kit and standard MC, and I didn't notice a difference in pedal travel.

Just read this whole thread with interest as the brakes on my 280z are horrendous! @atomman are you still producing these kits? I gather in aluminium now?

If so, am I right in thinking the 2 options for a 280z, would be either R32R calipers (like these?), or (non-turbo?) 300zx calipers from Rockauto?

If the latter, is this selection correct?:

Also, to confirm, is it only the Jag discs that fit on 280's? Or can the GTR ones fit too?

If either fit, any clues on the price difference and UK availability for the two disc options?

Hello ,

Only Jag disc's for the 280z I'm afraid, (no GTR because of the offset)

I just checked and the calliper I brought from RockAuto and it was a NUGEON 9700561A , Make sure they are the aluminium ones

Or get yourself some GTR callipers, (yes the ones in the link are GTR) smooth bodies rather than finned which some people think are GTR,
, all depends if you want your callipers to say NISSAN on them and price range , I would get any callipers rebuilt if second hand or go through them yourself,

Looks like the 300zx ones are now about £85 each now plus VAT plus shipping so maybe OG GTR callipers at around £300 are cheaper ?

cost wise its £60 to machine the discs plus postage , and £150 for the adapters depending if I have any material left over, and you will need new front flexis to
