Really excited about my new 76 280z project, pictures will follow soon in current state, future LS swap in the cards but first I need to get this registered. I’m sure there is a thread somewhere but new to forums so apologies.

I’ve got the Nova docs and receipt of purchase but no title so I need to get this dated by a club. Can I do that by being a paid member with The Z Club? once that’s done do I need any other docs?

many thanks and I’m looking forward to meeting other Z owners especially other that have done a ground up build, student of life here.

NO TITLE? Others may help but I'm not sure if this presents a problem or not as far as registration is concerned. Did the car from the US? I thought if there was no title the thing didn't ever manage to get on the ship?

This is a useful thread:

dit: I think you may be okay with a dating letter - and I think that is a service paid-up members benefit from!

thanks for the quick reply, not sure how I missed the Title block.

shouldn’t present a problem as I know others have done it before, I was just checking if this zclub was a authorised/official club that could be the supporting club so that’s great news.

ill register as a paid member then and request. Thanks for the help.

Interesting - I was under the impression no title = no go as far as exporting, but it seems not to be quite as clear cut as that. The challenge seems to be more at the US end (cars getting impounded until title can be produced depending on state, jurisdiction, etc.).

It can be done, but is time consuming and difficult and not always a guarantee. I have recently turned down buying a vehicle as the original title was not present (only a copy), the seller is trying to register it and at this point I agreed a sale but its been over a month now....

With some countries this the case but in this instance the DVLA will only use the Title to date the vehicle and assign it the date of first registration. A couple of ways to register your vehicle are:
  • The original title / registration, but you don’t have that
  • The original export certificate (if exporting from Japan / Dubai for example)
  • A letter from the manufacturer
  • A letter from an approved Owners Club for the manufacturer (in this case it would be the easiest option)
I've requested the dating letter so once I have it Ill submit and later update on the length the whole process took. I cant see a reason why it would take any longer on the DVLA side but I suppose I dont know the full process.

Have you called the DVLA for an update on its status? I recently registered a 79 Camaro but that had its title and took around 2 week for me to receive the V5C, so its not being help up by COVID. anymore.
