Wow yes, we can see the terrible fires but I didn't think about you! It must be very worrying and uncomfortable. How far away from you are they atm?

Thanks Rob, we are about 50 miles from the nearest fire. All of these fires are in heavily forested areas or open grass lands that move fast due to high winds. Not much chance of any of these fires coming east of Sacramento due to fuel starvation but the smoke is very heavy and low to the ground, like fog. Visibility down to a few hundred yards at times if the wind is blowing just right. The amount of land that has burned is just staggering, 800,000 acres on one fire and 300,000 plus acres on several more fires. No chance of rain in sight although the daily temps are coming down which will help. We will probably be dealing with this for another month as peak fire season has just begun now!!!

Lucky that the rear drums were not seized up so getting the old drums off was not too bad.

After a good clean up I decided to change out both brake cylinders and both rear soft brake lines too. Changed out both rear drums with newly turned drums and a coat of paint.

The previous person who worked on the rear brakes decided to apply white grease all around which becomes very dry and hard, not good. Used some brake clean to remove the white grease so all moves easily now.

Next up, bleed front and rear brakes and brake master. Re-install fuel tank and she should be road worthy shortly.

When I drove to see Mike in 2019 I drove past a load of burnt trees at the side of the freeway... you could smell it in the air as well....

More work on the 280Z over the past few weeks, most importantly I got rid of those pesky park bench bumpers. Purchased the smaller fiberglass 240 bumpers with all the fixings to retrofit to the 280Z. Can't wait to see how she looks with smaller bumpers and rota wheels.....should be a big improvement.

The front bumper was pretty straight forward, 3 bolts to remove the bumper bracket on either side. Then you have to partially remove a inner wing shield in front of the front tires and to access one nut that secures the front bumper rubber corner pieces along with another 10mm bolt attaching to the front valance.

The rear bumper is a little more involved.
On the drivers side you drop the muffler down to access the 3 bolts that secure the bracket. Next, open the hatch to access 3 more large nuts near the inner tail light panel......6 nuts and bolts total per side per bracket.

On the passenger side you have to drop the fuel tank down several inches to access the bolts and then go through the hatch again to get the last 3 large nuts off.

The rear corner rubbers on either side are easy enough to get to once you remove the fuel tank rock shield on the passenger side.

Need to find a good fill panel for the front under the stock grill.....a large hole is now staring at me. Any ideas?????????????

Thanks Robbie, which front spoiler did you use????
My plan was to keep the front valance and use a bolt on front air dam like a BRE.

There isn't a spoiler on Robbie's car in that picture.

The car now has a valance with a 240z style grill and I have removed the indicators

Thanks Sean, so it that a custom grill below the front bumper or a 240 grill????......my standard grill on the 280 does not go down that far.

Perhaps make one from another spare? I notice that your 280 appears to have a small grill at the bottom of the opening?

Conversion brackets front and rear mounted along with the fiberglass bumpers. The front bumper bolted up fine but the rear bumper ends and the factory tapped holes on the rear quarters are way far apart.....like 8 inches. Will have to fab up a bracket that bolts into the stock quarter panel threaded hole and connects up to the side bracket on the fiberglass rear bumper.

Next week will order BRE front spoiler and BRE rear air dam. The carpet kit and .............??????????
