"We believe the car is fully described ... " - legal claptrap more like. I am sure you have loads of question Rob. Let 'em have both barrels!

I’m only working on googling here....

1969 Ferrari Speciale
Just spotted this GTO evocation

on eBay, no Datsun dash though.

“The 400i Speciale offered here is not a replica and it is not a re-creation“

But it’s being sold as a 1969 .... but it’s built on a 400i chassis ( 1979 onwards ??) with a 575 engine (2002 onwards??) .

And that registration ....,

Ok I did try with the 'auction house' to reconsider if they should be selling this car and I mentioned that because they know of the legality issues and have chosen to do nothing about it that they could be seen to be 'complicit'.

In the case of an accident it could get very difficult especially with the insurer.

No joy. I'm not taking it any further - I don't want the stress.

On another topic 'GDPR' I have found a lot out about the owner just by using info on the advert and the internet.

I know the owner's full name, his address, his line of business, his wife's full name, their full dates of birth. cash in the bank (company). Amazing.

Comments on the sale site:

  • We have received a lot of enquiries regarding the registration situation with this car. We are not in a position to officially advise and suggest potential bidders discuss with the vendor.

  • Any issues with MOT/future licensing? Is the car not a Datsun? Does it not need an IVA - or fall short of the 8 point rule - having lost its original engine, gearbox., front suspension etc.? Can you provide some more detail on when the conversion was done and what documentation exists around this?

  • does the car have an IVA test certificate?

So at least the 'cat is out of the bag' now.

Good job!

Thanks, I didn't write those comments I wrote to the auction site direct to try to get them to put something in the advert - which they have now.

As with hotels if I get a good experience I go public, if I have a bad experience (or can see areas for improvement) I speak to the hotel direct whilst there.

I like the concept of a Ferrari V12 engine and even Ferrari brakes and front suspension however it is a mess underneath and the front suspension has made the track too wide. Also the inner wings are heavily chopped around for the exhausts/suspension.

I would expect an IVA to raise some issues.

Will it meet it's reserve? Only if someone has more money than sense.

However as a trackday car it would be an eyecatcher.

No, I understood that. the point is still that you made contact airing some concerns. That's great!

There were many negative comments and some were removed.

Can't believe someone has paid £55k (plus fees?). It's not even tidy underneath. And what is it based on 260/280? Say's 280 but RHD.

Just imagine what Ferrari you could buy for that.
