Help with steering rack disassembly

I'm stripping down the steering rack which I believe is from a 260z to give it a good clean and regreased but I'm stuck with the rack retainer adjustment screw. I've tried a variety of screwdrivers but I'm just starting to damage it and the tips are slipping out.

Has anyone got any idea to try and get it moving? I don't want to damage it anymore as I'm guessing replacements will be a nightmare to get hold of.

I've tried the obvious of sitting it in penetrating fluid for half an hour.

No idea either! Do you have an exploded diagram from a workshop manual to refer to? If you're stripping it down then replacing any plastic parts should be doable, assuming they're still available.

They weren't designed to be serviced, only replaced when won't. I can't imagine parts are easy to come by.

It unscrews anticlockwise and the nut (you have removed already) is just a locknut.

Best thing to do is make a fixture that replicates a screwdriver, but one that engages the whole of the slot. You could even try a flat piece of steel stock. Gentle heat won't hurt it or anything inside. Just don't get it too hot.

They are designed to be serviced, and the factory workshop manual shows how to do it.

A bit of heat did the trick. Thank you.

Doesn't look like there's been much use on this rack. All bushes are tight and there's old, but clean grease everywhere I'm looking.

I take it back. I've got half a mm of play in the rack bushing on the pinion side. Damn.
