RB head on L-Gata

Incredible work Gary! [emoji106][emoji106]

Gotta say, I was disappointed by the keyboard mechanics on FB and their comments. Can’t wait to see this beast come into life. Love the RB-L idea!

Its all part of the fun , I restrained from putting anything up on there for a while because I know what its like ,

Most like you say are keyboard mechanics and don't really understand whats going on , but in between all the rubbish you get someone who know there onions now and again and I get some good info or a contact,

I did like the question about 'will this fit my L4 engine ?' and people quoting chamber ratio CC 's without even knowing what head it is ,

Just went and had a look at the FB discussions...

:EXTRAlol:

Dear me.

I love that you’ve just gone ahead and done this, having the skills and tech to execute, rather than listening to the echo chamber of idiots repeating the same old crap about “can’t be done”. With the exception of a few innovators and the few with knowledge/awareness of what’s been going on in Japan for many years, the English language discussions on engine tech and what’s possible are generally one-dimensional and devoid of imagination. “Just go RB/LS/JZ” etc. Ugh.

Do you have a link, I couldn't see anything?

I did a quick CAD model of the exhaust flange and water cut one to try for size,

if this fits ok I plan to make to flanges of 3 joined together , then the header will be 3 into 1 for the front and rear 3 cylinders then 2 -1 to match up with my z story system, I've ordered some stainless tube and some 3 into 1 collectors ,

I made this a while ago in work when it was quiet , so now I can make some 1 1/2 dies and use it for something useful , bending the tube for the headers ,

I also brought a RB front cam wheel cover to maybe modify and use or at least get some sizes off and make one . the rear part i already had has been 'clearanced' and put on for now to give me an idea of where I need to insert bits to effectively seal the top section to stop oil going everywhere in the engine bay.

I cant really get the head into work at the moment and machine it as we're still doing prototype ventilator parts and Ozone generators , so all the machines are set up for small runs of parts , So trying to get on with other bits that need sorting , like an oil take off for the head form the oil pressure switch, header sorting etc

FBook is one thing I go on as little as possible. Twitter I never go on at all ...

As I have said before on here, I can’t pretend to understand much of all this, but it is fascinating to watch and (try to) learn. It must be a great help working in this environment, imagine wanting to do all this and having no access to the right tools, equipment etc, how frustrating would that be!

Obviously, everyone to their own and we all deal with social media and other forms of communication in our own way. However, I would say that FB has vast amounts of great stuff in those groups. The signal:noise ratio is very different to here but it's bound to be with so many people and, more importantly, people from very different parts of the world. Just look at how different classiczcars.com is to this club! I find that once you join the groups you like and silence the people you don't want to hear from your feed (the thing that is presented to you) becomes extremely interesting.

Disclaimer: I work for Facebook. However, I'm genuinely not debating the ins and outs of social media but just saying that there is a huge amount of really interesting and informative stuff in there.

top 2 show the original RB cam backing plate in place and where I will need to TiG some ally in to the head seal the top ,

Bottom picture the flange I made yesterday , fit's good so now a bit of CAD for the exhaust header design to get an idea of bends needed etc

I water cut the flanges out this week and the 1.5 stainless tube turned up for the header , so did some bends on the tube bender in work ready to chop up and make a header , I have a rough idea of how much room I have between engine and inner wing , but gonna try to keep it tight to the block,

I have just brought another project ( a 1954 Ford COE Truck ) but will still be playing round with this when I get chance

That’s an unusual project Gary, they seriously odd looking trucks tho! Would like to see a picture or two.

Needs slamming on airbags and a 6BT sticking in it , instead of the Bentley Turbo V8 that's fitted now though.
